Penelope (2024) Pulling in Children's Show

Why can’t plex get their act together and correctly index these shows? This is happening now and more. All the listings are right on TVDB.

Looking at TMDB which I think Plex Agent defaults to, I see the Penelope show you are interested in. I also see another Penelope show from 2006, whose metadata matches what you are seeing.

I expect if you rename your Penelope directory to “Peneloped (2024)”, it will match how you are expecting.

Why would it pull the poster and description from the 2024 show and the episodes from the cartoon from years prior? There’s something wrong with plex and how it accesses the APIs

How is your directory named? Usually these kind of things are named related. Perhaps Plex is trying to merge the two?

So as a test, I did:

Created a dir called “Penelope (2024)”
created a file called “Penelope (2024) - S01E01 - One.mp4”
moved that into the Penelope (2024) dir.

Dragged & dropped into my Tv Shows dir.

Matched perfectly against the Penelope (2024) show data.

You have a naming issue, sorry to say

Looking https://watch.plex.tv/en-GB/show/penelope-1/season/1?context.page=show&context.groupID=seasons&context.groupIndex=2&context.itemIndex=0 I see the same problem.

Most likely this is caused by plex not cleaning up incorrect external ids when they change on the online metadata sources like tmdb or tvdb. There are many examples of this.

Furthermore, I see a change Penelope (TV Series 2024- ) - Changes — The Movie Database (TMDB). This is confirmed by checking the xml data for the show where two tvdb exist.

Penelope (2024)
  plex://show/658037d40d5ac50fb3cce1d8
  imdb://tt30321175
  tmdb://241773
  tvdb://139651
  tvdb://453228

So if you use tvdb episode ordering you will see this problem. You may not if you use tmdb. Regardless, this is not a naming problem and an issue plex themselves need to clean up.

@napolij Like I said… If you see the above comment, you’ll see that you’re incorrect. There’s absolutely no way that an incorrect name would pull the right poster and description but not the ep names. I’ve had this happen with Dora (2024) as well. This is a common thing happening more and more with Plex.

Even after renaming everything to use Penelope (2024) in the naming structure and doing the plex dance, same result. It’s on Plex to clean up.

Luckily I can force TMDB and it’s corrected. Thank you @anon5074910

I’ve already filed an issue for this.

The cause is a bad external id in the TMDB data - this was fixed back in August on the TMDB side but that change never seems to have come through to our side. Hoping this should rectify itself in the next couple of days.

I must just be getting lucky. I have added and deleted it three times now and each time, it has matched correctly, ’

Named like so:
Penelope (2024)/Season 01/Penelope (2024) - S01E01 - One.mp4

Your most likely using tmdb episode ordering which is why its working for you. The issue in this example is when using custom episode ordering, tvdb.

I’m using whatever the default ordering is.

Exactly - which is tmdb. Anyhow, issue is confirmed to getting fixed which is great.

FYI… I’m seeing the duplicate ids have now been cleaned up and after refreshing the metadata using tvdb episode ordering the issue is now resolved.
