Wrong TV Series Metadata. Video is correct. My Metadata not being used

Server Version#: 1.24.3.5033-757abe6b4
Player Version#: (not sure what this means if I’m viewing it in a browser on the same machine?)

I have an old 1990’s TV Series (Northern Exposure) that had worked fine in the past, but after a new install, it is not seeing my images or metadata files. When the video is played, it is the correct NE episode. So that is fine.

I remember when I put these metadata files together years ago that the Series ID / info was not in any of the online databases. Which is why I had to gather all of the data and make my own. I have a metadata txt file for each episode, in the same folder with all of the episodes. And it has all worked fine in the past. But now, Plex is seeing my Northern Exposure series as a show called Rin-ne, and using all of it’s images & metadata.

Please, any help is greatly appreciated!!

Here is the contents of the first Season/Episode (NE_S01_E01 Pilot.mkv.txt).

description : Dr. Joel Fleischman arrives in Anchorage, Alaska to fulfill his part of a bargain that paid $125,000 for his medical education in exchange for service in the state as a doctor. Sure, it’ll be tough for a guy from New York to adjust to Anchorage, but… then he learns Anchorage doesn’t need him, and he’s been assigned to Cicely, a small remote town owned and dominated by the strong minded Maurice Minnifield, a former astronaut set on developing his little part of Alaska into a vacation paradise and equally decided to make Fleischman honor his professional obligations.

How exactly are the files named on disk?

It should be Northern Exposure (1990)/Season 01/Northern Exposure - S01E01 - Pilot.mkv for best results.

The metadata is available online:

https://thetvdb.com/series/northern-exposure

You don’t need text files with the metadata, that doesn’t help Plex at all and will be completely ignored.

Have you tried to “Fix Match” on the show?

Files are named like this:
NE_S01_E01 Pilot.mkv.
seriesname_series#_episode# episode title.mkv
so, the metadata had the same format with .txt added at the end.

Thanks for the info on the naming conventions. Right now with my format, the series and episodes are in the correct places in Plex. But I will fix the names to follow that convention…

I did this about 4 years ago I think. It worked & I streamed it on my tv. I do remember searching 2 or more TV databases online and not finding it. But I found it in this wiki. And I manually created all those txt files from that… Maybe it was added to the online databases after I searched. I remember reading posts about an issue with shows that were on before the db’s were created. If you say .txt files would not have worked, maybe it was added right when I was trying to get it to work. IDK. But I got it working.

But I was able to make a Match with The Movie Database and it’s showing all the images correctly now. Thanks so much for your help.

This cannot work.
