I am trying to add the History Channell Series Ancient Civilizations to my plex server. IMDB finds the correct entry (screen shot) and I have configured the file accordingly (screenshot). In fix match I have tried the TVDB and the Movie DB and the results are in the last screen shot. Looking for guidance.
Every so often there is a show that falls through the cracks. Looks like you’ve found one.
Plex uses TVDB and TMDB IDs for TV shows. IMDB IDs are supported for movies. References: Naming & Organizing Your TV Show Files; Naming & Organizing Your Movie Files
The problem is the show does not exist in either TheTVDB.com or themoviedb.org (I’m unable to find it, anyway).
Until it exists in one of those two places, Plex will not download the metadata.
Some options, none of which provide immediate relief:
Create a free account at TheTVDB.com. Open a support case and ask them to add the show. Include the IMDB ID/URL so they can look it up. You should hear back from them in ~48 hours (not counting weekends). It will take them awhile to actually get the show into their system.
Create a free account at TheTVDB.com and enter the show information yourself. Unfortunately, they do not have a “just import whatever IMDB has” option.
Plex can read metadata embedded in MP4 files. If the show is in MP4 format and has the metadata (or you choose to add it), you can configure Plex to read the metadata. To do so, edit the library, choose Advanced, and enable the option to Prefer Local Metadata. Note that this is a Library, not show setting. If other shows in the library have embedded metadata, Plex will use it as well. If it is not correct those shows may not display correctly in Plex.
There are automated tools that can normally help with such a task. However, they also rely on the various online databases. Filebot can retrieve metadata and add it to a mp4 file. However, their website mentions TheTVDB.com, Themoviedb.org, and AniDB, so it probably would not work in this instance.
What if the show is both on TVDB and TMDB and Plex still can’t find it? I have tried entering the title, the TVDB ID and the TMDB ID as the search term. Is this something the Plex admins has to correct in their DB?
The original title is ‘The Island Sverige’ and in English it’s ‘The Island Sweden’. The TVDB ID is 416062 and the TMDB ID is 157352.
Looks like The Island Sverige (2022) was created a couple of days ago on both tmdb and tvdb so could take a couple more days before it’ll flow into the plex backend cache system.
I’d suggest giving it a few more days and see if it then pops up.
BTW… I also don’t see this show yet on imdb which may or may not be a problem getting it into plex. Think everything starts from imdb but I’m open to correction on that.
