Wrong year displayed

Was just cleaning up my movies and found out most of them are labeled with the wrong year.
One quick example: Bambi and Bambi II are both labeled with the year 2014 instead of 1942 and 2006.
If I “Fix Incorrect Match”, it finds the correct title with the correct year and the year displayed is fixed on the main page of the movie.
If I edit the movie details (prior of matching the correct title), the year shown is the right one for both movies, nevertheless, the year displayed on the main page of the movies is 2014.
These two movies are just an example. I see this problem for many movies in my library. All files are named properly, with the year included in the file name like “Bambi (1942).mp4”

Is there any quick fix for this problem? Going through all my movies and “Fix Incorrect Match” would be a nightmare.
I have to specify that only the year is incorrect. The rest of the details are the correct ones, including posters and distribution.

One example:

Later edit:
I found out that if I refresh only one item/movie at a time, the year will be fixed after grabbing metadata, but if I refresh the whole library, nothing gets fixed.

It’s a known problem and is slated to be fixed in an upcoming release. If you search around a bit you should find a couple of threads about it.

My bad. I searched and could only find problems regarding year of release being displayed instead of year launched, or file name year.
For the moment, I clicked 'Refresh All" and it started fixing wrong year.
The bad part: All custom posters are being replaced with default posters :frowning:

Yeah, this is why I’m surprised they haven’t fixed this issue yet. The longer it takes, the more content that will have to be refreshed, downloaded and lead to frustration from users like yourself that use the default agents (it’s affecting nondefault agents as well).

The problem only occurs with 0.9.15.x which is plex pass only. You can roll back to any 0.9.14.x build for now. The priority in fixing this is high but not as critical if it was a public release. The fix is coming soon.

ah… i just upgraded to 0.9.15… no wonder its just started for me.

Thanks for this post. I was just fixing to type up a question about this. Same thing experienced by myself. All other metadata is correct except wrong year date. Upon “fix mismatch” year date is corrected. While not huge just something that makes me laugh a little when i see a movie from the 50’s show as 2014. I will wait until the update fixes this and then see if rescanning the library updates the year dates. I for one am not a fan of app rollbacks, so I will just deal with it. Thanks for the info everyone.

@jamesbbryant the issue has been corrected for the last two updates.

It seems it is not for me.
Not even manual matching and refreshing does not help.

Can you give me an exact scenario? This has been fixed, so if it is not working for you, it could be something else. The fix does not retroactively go back and change the years, but a refresh should change them. So, if it didn’t work for you, we’ll need to do some investigating to find out why.

Just one example:
Movie: For a Few Dollars More
IMBD: For a Few Dollars More (1965) - IMDb
IMDB year: 1965

I manually match the title with “Fix Incorrect Match”.
I get the correct result with the year 1965. Select the result.
The year on the top right Plex Web is still 2015.
If I edit the title, the year is displayed correctly as 1965.
If I refresh the title, the year does not change from 2015 to 1965.

Several PlexPass versions ago, I did a full refresh, but that messed up my custom posters for lots of titles.
It fixed some of the titles with incorrect years, but not all of them.

Should I try a full refresh again? Or a refresh on a single item should fix it?

Refreshing a single movie should fix the year for that movie. If you have a lot of movies, Refresh All will be needed to do all of them. Your statement that the last time you did Refresh All and lost some custom posters is not good. That should not happen if the movies were matched properly.

Editing the title causing the year to change is also not right. That should not happen. That almost sounds like a browser cache issue.

Can you do these steps to help me identify the problem?

1 - Find a movie with a wrong year.
2 - Grab the XML for that movie.
3 - Refresh just that movie
4 - Grab the XML again
5 - If the year isn’t fixed, edit the title
6 - Grab this XML as well
7 - Grab the following logs
a - scanner.log
b - imdb.log or themoviedb.log (which ever agent you are using)

Zip up all these and upload them.

Thanks.

The only way to fix this, at least in my case, is to Unmatch the title and match it again.
After matching it again, the year will be fixed.
Not so fast if having lots of titles with incorrect years, but I ain’t doing a full refresh

Thank you for your time MovieFan.Plex

I’m having the same problem now. I’m using the latest beta version and the movies display the year after title in brackets. This year reflects the year of the movie added after the name in brackets.

The year that is displayed below is the year that the file was created. Some show 2036??

As described above it’s fixed if I update metadata for individual movies but breaks again if I refresh meta data for the library.
