Another issue I keep seeing is the selection doesn’t keep up with the selector position. If you scroll sideways to select a media title, sometimes it just selects the first one in the horizontal list. Likely a result of the extreme latency and slow running app, but who knows.
Welcome to the party folks, they destroyed the ios app 6 months ago and now you’re seeing what we’ve been complaining about. It’s a complete disaster. Plex you need to fire whoever is destroying your customer base.
The fact that there’s been hardly any response from Plex lately makes me wonder WTF is going on internally? Even the releases that we’re getting aren’t really improving much - I see the latest Roku beta release only has a couple of minor fixes in it. The older clients have been stagnant for a long time now.
I have been waiting, one of my family members is seriously visually impaired, this UI change has made the app much more difficult to use, please give an alt option, the old UI was pretty good for such impairments, easier to navigate, this new one is horrible!
Roku Plex interface is now junk. Heaps of focus on features, content and media I don’t care about, and the primary functions (access to personal media) massively reduced and buried under many clicks. Can’t disable the irrelevant content. Cant even easily resume something I was watching earlier.
Joining the group and begging Plex to make the old UI an option. I am a lifetime paid Plexer, and a software engineer. I hate when companies feel like they have to make a change to justify their existence. I am setting up our second system in the basement and starting with Jellyfin just to see what something else is like.
My whole family really detests the new design. We just want our libraries back and easily accessible. At this point, I have nothing to lose by trying other media server options.
We don’t stream anything through Plex and have no streaming services. I have highly recommended Plex to multiple friends, and now I cannot until you fix this. Make the UI an option and let your customers decide what they want. Of course, you will find out that the people on your UI redesign team made a very unpopular interface with terrible usability for much of your core customer base.
I agree. This is garbage and whoever designed and approved it needs to find a new job. I am a lifetime member - I don’t actually use any of the added features but I paid for the lifetime membership because I loved Plex and wanted to support them.
I am in my 70’s and this new update is too complicated. My wife won’t use it. It is not user friendly at all. I spent way too much time going down all the rabbit holes but I can find my movies now but not TV Shows or music (it seemed to lose those libraries unless I go to “browse”.) Roku has been the “in” device for seniors and you screwed it up - suggest you have your parents test it next time. And provide a Users Guide when you turn it into a completely new app.
I understand you kind of mucked up your business model and are now trying to use advertising to pay the bills and this update is part of that. But, at least in my case, I am saturated with ads. I will pay subscriptions, but when ads are added I always drop the service.
Please give us the option for a Plex Classic or something similar. Luckily for me, we usually use an Nvidia Shield Pro in another room. If that interface gets this new treatment then I will be dropping Plex completely and looking to JellyFin (or Kodi). I am starting to prepare for that now.
We all know the powers at PLEX don’t give a hoot about customer input. There have been fundamental bugs in time shifting and other basic LiveTV/DVR functions since day one that they’ve left unanswered so it shouldn’t surprise anyone that they don’t give a hoot about these comments.
With the carriage dispute going on between YTTV and Disney I had to rely on OTA for football today with a houseful of guests. I decided to set up one TV on PLEX just so people could see what an unstable, bug ridden cluster F PLEX has become. PLEX management may not wish to listen but I can guarantee potential users listen and have long memories.
I’ve still not seen a believable explanation for all these changes but I sure hope the people who decided they were a good idea know what they’re doing. Your former base customer is not attracted to these changes so I can only assume you’re after a different user moving forward. Good luck!
If all you need is a basic DVR for LiveTV try a Gen4 Tablo. You can get a 2 or a 4 tuner setup, plug it in, and it just works. NOT a lot of bells and whistles but …. I’ve seen the 4 tuner for about $100, less than a PLEX Pass and it includes lifetime guide. I bought one because it’s a low power option I can run off a small battery backup when the power goes out. Now I use it instead of PLEX after they destroyed their ROKU client.
I have a Tablo as well but only because it’s easier for my wife to schedule recordings. In general, there are significant drawbacks for me.
We travel a lot and Tablo cannot be accessed outside the home.
There is no way to view live TV or recordings on a Windows PC
You can’t share your recordings with other family members that are outside the home
I have tons of disk space on my Plex server but there is no way to copy from Tablo to another device on the Network if I want to save recordings. There is limited disk space on the internal Tablo drive.
For these reasons, I also have a HDHomeRun to record shows I want that are available on my Plex server. I am still very dissatisfied with what Plex did to their Roku and Smart phone interface but Tablo is not the answer. At least the Web interface on my Laptop still works the way we want. Hopefully they won’t screw that up as well.
there are ways to access your Tablo remotely without a lot of effort. Yes, it’s a basic solution but at least it functions, unlike the current PLEX solution!
