Recently I noticed shows containing x265 files randomly stopped being scanned by Plex. Everything was working fine for months, plex would pick up x265 file without a problem. Something has changed and can’t seem to figure it out. I don’t have this problem with non x265 formats, plex will pick them up fine. My format meets the naming requirement for plex

Here is where it gets weird, permissions seem to change at the file level for x265, where all other files are fine.

Example

Outlander shows the correct permission at the root folder level.

Outlander.S06E01.1080p.WEBRip.x265-RARBG Permission changed (Plex cannot pick up)
Outlander.S06E02.1080p.WEBRip.x265-RARBG Permission changed Plex cannot pick up)

Both x265 files have the admin accounts but is missing “everyone”

   Outlander.S06E03.720p.WEB.h264-KOGi (Plex can pick up)

Here are the permission on that file

So I tested and added “Everyone” to the route Tv folder and applied to all folder and re downloaded the same file.

Outlander.S06E01.1080p.WEBRip.x265-RARBG Permission changed (Plex cannot pick up)

Everyone is missing for the x265 at the file level causing plex not to the see the file.

When and copy the entire show directory to “Misc Videos”

The permission stay in place and plex is able to see the x265 file

When I copy the directory back to the main TV folder Plex can see it.

This is a weird issue only with x265 files, and didn’t find much here in the forums that matched my issue except for this post below. This user is on windows client. The post below doesn’t solve the problem that I am having.

Your description is somewhat conflicting.

On one hand you seem to point to a specific user
On the other you point to HEVC.

File permissions won’t be selective about video encoding.
The specific user writing the file(s) might be the cause here.

Regardless, DEBUG log files are going to be needed to proceed.

We need to see what PMS is / isn’t doing.

Please verify DEBUG logging is enabled again (if you disabled it)
Recreate the problem as best you can
Download the server logs (settings - server - troubleshooting - download logs)
Attach the ZIP file it presents you

Its something HEVC files, plex can’t see them in the Tv directory. All other formats work fine.

Debugging was already checked off

Let’s do a Scan Files / Refresh metadata for the TV directory.

When that’s completed, download the pms server logs and attach them.
Maybe we’ll get lucky

Here are the new logs

File naming issue?

Try “Outlander - s06E01 - optional name of episode.mkv”

Is that a question, Sonarr or Sab renames to the correct naming convention?

Here is an example

Plex only picks up files 5 and 7, non x265

The scene name

Hudson.and.Rex.S05E05.The.Good.Shepherd.1080p.AMZN.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.H.264-NTb

Hudson.And.Rex.S05E07.1080p.AMZN.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.H.264-NTb

Renamed to the proper format shown in the picture.

Its not a naming issue.

Definitely have file permissions errors on the movies side.

Recommend giving a force (re)setting of permissions via FileStation - Properties - Apply to this folder, sub-folders, and files.

If that doesn’t clear it up after dancing the files, we’ll dance to HEVC codec

I did a reset or permission on folders, before I posted here and I got the same results. The permission break some how.

plex doesn’t change permissions.

this is a sonarr and/or sab issue.

What kind of sonar and sab issues? i am using docker. I made sure sab, sonarr and radarr have matching GUID and PUID.

Are you mounting the Syno with NFS or SMB.

If mounting with SMB, is that mount also using the correct UID:GID?

I believe a NFS share.

what does the NFS permissions tab show, specifically the rule?

Its blank

If it’s blank, you’re not using NFS to access the shared folder.
You’re using SMB and all files written over that SMB connection have the UID/GID of the username used to mount with (SMB credentials)

On the Linux host -

When you use NFS, you will preserve the UID/GID from the Linux side if so configured to do so in the NFS export rule on the Syno (which is the norm)

I am not much of a linux person, i am still learning slowly. So do I need to putty in and run those cmds in how to?

Where are your media acquisition apps running?

I presume they are on a Linux host and that’s the Linux host which connects to the Syno?

I am running plex bare metal from syno package center. The rest of the apps are running from docker.

The apps are running in the Syno Docker engine ?
