(XB1) Prefer AC3 to AAC for multichannel audio. Not Working?

I just purchased my Xbox One for the Plex functionality. I'm loving the UI and the speed of the app. My problem is that all of my TV Shows/Movies are defaulting to AAC stereo instead of playing the AC3 5.1 audio track. I keep reading that the feature has been available since version 0.9.11.0. I'm currently on on 0.9.11.4 and I still have to manually change the audio to AC3 5.1 for every program I watch. This is NOT family friendly. Is there a setting or pref file somewhere that I need to edit in order to get this working properly? Please help. I'm loving the Xbox setup, but if this doesn't work I'm going to return and go back to my 3yr old Apple TV that plays 5.1 with no problem.

Just downloaded the newest plex app for xbox and it is still not playing back AC3 automatically. I have to pause, go to [...], and manually choose the AC3 track. Very disappointing.

Well, at least I'm happy to know that I'm not the only one. However it still not family friendly to have to do this for every video I watch. Is anyone else experiencing this, or is this problem very rare?

I myself would like to see this get replaced with something really useful.

It would be nice to have a "ranked" set of defaults to use.  IE DTS, Dolby (x.x), AC3, AAC etc.

I'm experiencing this as well. Definitely not ideal to have to change audio on each video. Hopefully they'll be able to get a fix in on the next update.

I hope so too but no one from plex has even confirmed the issue so not sure they're even looking into it. Also, it took 2 months between the first release and the last update (i know a lot of that delay must be on the MS side) so i'm not holding my breath. I've reverted to using my Roku for Plex, which is a shame as i prefer the Xbox interface more.

Sorry you're seeing this - I presume other apps do The Right Thing in this case, and it's just the XB1 app that doesn't automatically select the right option?

In the other apps you usually have an option in the settings to Prefer Surround Sound over Stereo. Ideally i think the xbox app could have that same setting and if set, it would use the surround track when direct playing. If transcoding, i guess you'd be at the mercy of what the server sends so that would likely be something the PMS would have to handle.

I always assumed it defaulted to 5.1, until i went to options and it was playing stereo, big difference, but i hope is fixed soon.
