Xbox one app doesn't show random SRT subtitle lines

I’ve been using Plex for about 3 months at this point, and I’m having an extremely difficult time getting my SRT files to consistently work well. The issues I’m seeing is that the app sometimes doesn’t render the occassional subtitle line, and sometimes doesn’t render multiple lines. The subtitles play fine on the Win32 Plex app, Pex Web app and even VLC. It’s something like 90% success rate with subtitles, and I’m confused why 10% of my subtitle lines in movies just randomly don’t render… When it’s a forced subtitle line that I miss, or even chunk of lines, it’s extremely frustrating and I typically quit Plex and go get the disk so I don’t miss parts of the movie due to bugs.

As an example, in Ghost in the Shell, the intro is 4 subtitle lines and it’s on a forced track, which I’ve verified is active (and is the only subtitle I put into the file). The first 3 lines play fine, but for whatever reason the 4th line just never appears in the Xbox app, even though it shows up fine in other Plex apps.

Because I’ve been watching lots of HDR content I can’t just transcode the subtitles. I also don’t want to burn them into the video files, as using SRT’s should be perfectly acceptable.

Are these issues with SRT files on the Xbox known? Is there anything I can provide to help diagnose what is going on?

Plex Media Server.log (2.8 MB)

Attaching my log file, in Debug mode with Xbox One client sending up data. Near the end I watched “Ghost in the Shell” and I had exactly the problem I described in my original post where the 4th subtitle line didn’t render.

Interestingly, another movie I had issues with last night, Captain America Winter Solider, seemed to render the subtitles fine, whereas last night it missed 6 or 7 subtitle lines in a row, and wouldn’t work even with my stopping and restarting playback. I’m using a different Xbox One than I did last night, and this Xbox is not on an HDR screen, but I’m not sure if that matters.

Bumping this as it’s been 10 days. Please let me know if someone needs anything else to investigate. I’m also curious if others are experiencing this issue. When I’m using subtitles, I’m almost always watching an HDR movie with a forced subtitles track, so I wonder if the bug is unique to that configuration as well?

I’ve had my subtitles stop working mid movies very annoying. Tbh I don’t use xbox player anymore it’s to buggy, both problem with subtitles and buffering at random.

This happens both with 1080p movies and with 4k hdr for me.
