XBOX ONE App Not Showing Anything

Tech Details:

  • Plex Server version 1.2.7.2987
  • Xbox One app version 1.8.0.0
  • Xbox One console OS version 10.0.14393.2123 (Has not been updated since 11/11)
  • Same network.

The Problem:
App logs in fine on Xbox One, however instead of showing the main page it’s just a black screen. It show’s I’m connected to the server. No error messages.

What I’ve tried:

  • Uninstall and reinstall Plex (Failed)
  • Hard Reboot Xbox One (Failed)
  • Had two user accounts, the secondary actually worked. The main did not. Removed the secondary so it just boots to the main and the problem persist.
  • Closing and restarting the Plex Server (Everytime after trying the above) (Failed)

Items of Note:

  • There is no problem on my Roku or Android boxes.
  • I’m able to Cast from the server to the Xbox One.
  • Everything was working fine until a particular show finished tonight (12/1/16), when we went back to pick the next episode is when this problem began.

Anyone have any ideas?

Could you enable logging to server in the app settings and then post server logs when you launch the app?

attached the log file

So, due to an unrelated series of events I had to rebuild my server on a different machine. Same problem with only the Xbox One App.

I found in another post to go to https://plex.tv/api/resources from EDGE on the Xbox one

I got a message saying “please sign in”. The plex app was seemingly signed in at the blank page. (show’s my server and login at the top right)

@seyler I noticed that you’re using IPv6 addresses for your servers. If you disable IPv6 and go back to IPv4 does that help?

@Moussa Made the change, rebooted the server and restarted the xbox one app. This time it just got stuck at the plex loading screen with the running circle. Tried closing and reopening the app a few times, same result. Removed the XBox from the devices, closed and reopened the app, logged in and back to the black screen seemingly logged in, on the server.

An updated Plex Media Server log is attached from reboot until now.

@seyler Nothing stands out to me from that log. Is your server connected to plex.tv? It might help if you temporarily share your server with me so I can see why the app fails to connect from my end, if you’re okay with that.

@moussa sure. how do I share?

This article should help. My Plex username is the same as my forum name.

@moussa shared

@seyler Thanks for the share. I can see the issue now. Unfortunately your library name contains characters (< and >) that causes issues in some code that creates the dashboard elements. I’ve filed this bug internally to fix, but in the meantime you can workaround it by removing those characters from your library name. Not ideal, but it’ll get it working for now. Sorry about that! Thanks for helping track down the issue.

@Moussa That worked, thank you so much for your help!

One note for the bug report, it did work for awhile with those characters (about a week) until it stopped entirely.

Not sure what caused it to stop working because as far as I can see this bug has always been present. But I’ll make a note of it, thanks.
