Plex app keeps loading forever (Xbox One Windows 10)

Hi there,

I’m running into a problem since yesterday evening. I cannot load Plex on my Xbox One anymore. It was working fine yesterday, I watched a movie and since this morning, the app keeps showing the loading animation. I tried a few things:

  • Reboot the Xbox One (hardware reboot)
  • Reinstall the app from the store
  • Check that internet was working on the console
  • Check that Plex status was all showing green

It is a known bug with Windows 10? How can I solve this problem? Plex is now unusable and it is very frustrating…

Let me know if you need more things (I tried to find logs but I don’t think that I can get them when the app starts).

Cheers,

G.

You could try deleting the “Xbox One connection” in your server under settings => devices => Xbox One.

Good one. When I started the app again after having deleted the connection in the Devices tab, I have been prompted for my credentials. I entered those and it continues. I landed on the main screen but it was completely empty. I can see my server in the top right corner but everything else stays empty. Nothing happens when I select it. After my movie yesterday evening, I noticed this empty screen. This is from there that things did not work anymore.

If I kill the app and restart it, I’m ending the infinite loop again.

Does anyone know what can cause the main screen to stay completely empty? I will dig the server logs as well.

OK, another guess.

Optimize all your libraries (gear symbol on your server then hit ‘optimize’)

And then do the thing with deleting the connection once again so you can start fresh.

I tried, not given anything good. I checked the server logs and I can find this:

Nov 15, 2015 17:01:14 [0x7efd7affe700] WARN - [Plex for Xbox One] No primary server

Nov 15, 2015 17:01:13 [0x7efd87bff700] INFO - [Plex for Xbox One] Setting primary server to MACROSERVER

Nov 15, 2015 17:01:14 [0x7efd7affe700] WARN - [Plex for Xbox One] Failed to fetch remote player profile from plex.tv, sticking with local profile

Any ideas?

I also got this one (I have done some new traces):

Nov 15, 2015 21:53:57 [0x7f0143fde700] WARN - [Plex for Xbox One] MACROSERVER is unavailable at https://… (Status 0)

Please can you leave logging enabled on XB1, then remove your sign in details from plex.tv - https://plex.tv/users/edit (look under the Single Sign On section).

Once you’ve done that you should be asked for a PIN again. Please try logging in again and then send us the full PMS log from when you’ve tried this. Hopefully we can find something there.

Here is the last log I took yesterday. It should cover the scenario you mention. Let me know if you need more or if you need to do some specific testing on my Xbox One.

Cheers,

D.

Another trace tonight, removing the SSO and the device connection on the server.

I am not sure if this is related to the recent Xbox upgrade or not. I only got my Xbox One last week and upgraded to Plex Pass in order to run Plex.

I was experiencing this before the Xbox update earlier in the week and this is still an issue afterwards. I have upgraded PMS to the latest Ubuntu build and tried uninstalling / reinstalling the Plex app on Xbox with no luck.

t11pex it seems that you are running into the exact same issue as me. Can you share Plex Media Server.log as well? It would help the devs to see if there is a pattern in there.

If you’re comfortable doing so, can you share your server with me - I’m ‘Dom C’ - and I can try and reproduce here. No worries if you’d rather not do that though! (I don’t see anything bad in the logs :frowning: )

Dulcow - I’m very busy at the moment, apologies that I have not had a chance to upload any logs yet. Dom C - No problems with sharing the server temporarily if it helps to troubleshoot. Will try and remember to do so this evening.

Dom C, I sent you an invite. I take more logs if needed. It is super annoying… Plex on Xbox One was my setup for entertainment :frowning:

This is normal in the logs?

I compared with a few other devices and that’s the main difference I see. I also noticed that when I clicked on the server list in top right corner, I can see only my local server (MACROSERVER) where usually you can see the local machine and this server.

I’m a former Microsoft employee (part of Windows engineering team), I can help you debug a bit more if needed

Yeah - we have an (optional) remote player profile for doing stuff like testing h265 without having to do a client update. I don’t think we need to worry about that. This is an xb1 client specific request.

What local machine do you mean? As in if you use android, it shows ‘this device’? Or do you have another PMS running?

Awesome. You’ve set yourself up for some pestering there then!

Thanks! Will check on this when I get back to my devkit later today.

Hi Dom C,

I’m using a lot of devices (iPhone, Windows Phone, Windows tablet, Windows PC, Xbox One) with Plex but also with the DLNA server (WD Live TV, Xbox One). I have only one server PMS running on my NAS (20 TB / Avoton).

I think that the problem is related to Windows 10, something must have changed on the client side. All my other devices are working perfectly.

Let me know if you need me to do another trace from the server side.

Cheers,

G.

Thanks. Hoping to take a prod later today.

Yay! Found it!

We’re not escaping text in one of the places we should have been, and the framework was quite rightly refusing to display it, but incorrectly refusing to go any further. I’ve fixed it locally so should be in either 1.3 or 1.4.

For now you can adjust your metadata to work around the issue @Dulcow - you have a recently added album by Caravan Palace that contains < and > - if you rename this, or add more albums so this goes off the hub, you should be fine.

Sorry about the hassle!

(oh and feel free to remove my friendship now, I should be done needing your server! Thanks!)

Thank you so much Dom  I will rename the album and try again!
