Xbox One claims my server is offline.

I've been trying for ages to connect my Xbox One to my plex server. The most current version of Plex Media Server is up and running under background processes on my laptop with Windows 8 and I am logged in on Plex.tv/web/app. Both my Xbox and laptop are connected to the same wireless network.

When I search for the server with my Xbox One, the tiny little dropdown menu in the top right can see my server but says that it is offline, and my Xbox searchs for a second before saying "No Servers Found."

What's the problem here? Am I missing something?

Thanks.

make sure you go to plex settings and login your account. You have Plex pass?

Did you forward the port properly in your router settings for your server to be reachable from outside the network?  And is your server showing up at Plex.tv/devices

Because of the way the Xbox One limits the connections, the Plex App must connect to plex.tv retrieve your server information and then attempt to connect to it.  After that initial connection everything is done locally, but it needs internet/xbox live access before that point.

By default Plex uses uPNP to try and punch a hole through your router to the server sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.  Normally, I recommend avoiding that and setting up the port forwarding as it leaves a lot less to it may or may not work.

This is the connecting a server support article:

This is a sample screenshot of my routers port forwarding page.  The top part is blank, the bottom part is filled in with sample values.

Port Range is the port you select on the Plex connect screen.

Local IP is the ip address of your server.

Local port is always 32400.  This is what port plex listens on.

Protocol it is recommended for TCP.

I have a Plex pass.

Do you mean Plex settings on the Xbox One? I signed in there when I launched the app, apart from that I have had no access to any settings.

Any idea where I find my routers port forwarding page?

Any idea where I find my routers port forwarding page?

Varies based on the manufacturer.  A lot of times it is jsut 192.168.1.1, then some kind of WAN page that has a tab for Port Forwarding (At least that's how mine is) I have seen it under LAN settings, but in any setting it should have its own tab for port forwarding.

This website has a list based by manufacturer and has some instructions that normally help out with where and how to access the router.  When you first click on a guide a popup appears offering software to do it, just close that popup to continue on.  For my router the N66u it actually has a listing for Plex Media Server, not sure about all other models though.  But you should be able to follow any application guide and just use the port that you want for Plex instead of the specific application in the guide.
