- Plex server is running on my PC with the above stated version
- Plex server is logged in with my account which is a Plex Pass account
- Plex server is (as always) available from my Roku app, no issues
- The XBox One is on the same WiFi network as my Plex server and Roku. No NAT. No firewall.
I Have Tried:
- Uninstalling and re-installing the Plex app on XBox One
- Rebooting XBox One and uninstalling and re-installing the Plex app.
- Rebooting the PC that Plex server runs from, with auto start disabled and manually starting Plex server.
Killer app on Roku, no doubt. But when I pony up the cash for a subscription I expect it to work! This isn't freebie territory anymore.
One last thing. What about an actual support ticket? Maybe I am missing something but I can't find a way to get one on one actual support. So I am paying for a subscription and my only support method is a forum? Really?
So you're thinking that since you have your content ripped and stored on a local server that you should not have to concern yourself with inbound Internet connectivity. Wrong!
Apparently the XBox One app relies on Plex Pass but not just the mere presence of a subscription on your account, but also inbound connectivity from the Plex servers to your Plex server. In order for your local network XBox One to connect to your local network Plex server, you need to have an inbound TCP (I assume) port open for the Plex servers to communicate with your Plex server.
My "fix" involved statically setting my inbound port (in the server-->connect tab) to port 32400, then enabling TCP/UDP port forwarding from my ISP gateway to my wifi gateway (double NAT) then from my wifi gateway to my (now) static IP Plex server.
Once this was done and after removing the Plex app from the XBox One, rebooting and re-installing the Plex app, it works as intended and my server is available from http://plex.tv/web/app#
I will say that the experience after getting it running is good. Easy to play, pause, fast forward and reverse as well as turn subtitles on/off.
Title browsing is lacking, with only one (apparently) pre-selected genre or resume category to pick from with browse all as an option. The browse shows everything with a sort order I cannot fully fathom.
To the point however, the fix to my problem was opening up inbound TCP port to my Plex server. This is far from ideal TBH and I don't know how comfortable I will be with this long term.
Plex team, this little detail needs to be more obvious and discussed as a solution. Opening inbound TCP to a local server is not exactly grandpa proof. I think you could come up with a better solution to make experience with your product more intuitive.

Good post but unfortunatley my server is already open and its only xbox one that has the issue even the dlna on my tv works fine.
I have just realised as it didn't prompt me but I have it working now and what you need to do (well what worked for me is)
Goto the Settings, then click on SERVER, then click on the 'CONNECT' menu on the left.
I then had to sign in with my plex username and password (though I had thought this was already done as I used my username and password to open the program) however it doesn't prompt you to do that.
as soon as I did it says it is now connected to plex and you can also stream movies over the web.
