Xbox one new app is trash!

Y’all seen the Plex Media Player on PC that replaced Home Theatre? That is absolute garbage. It’s just the web frontend! Completely removed controller support so I have to have a keyboard and mouse connected to my HTPC and video playback is a stuttering nightmare. Thank god for OpenPHT.

FireTV’s interface used to be quick, clean and simple. New one? Garbage. It’s not as bad as the Xbox or PC platforms but Jesus…

Why Plex? Why must you destroy ALL of your apps? I’m probably gonna cancel my Plex pass at this point. I was happy to pay for it (despite not really using any of the paid features) as I felt I was contributing towards the development of the platform. I didn’t realise THIS was what I was paying towards them developing.

Guys, if we all stop paying for it, they can’t make it any worse!

You are probably in the “desktop” UI, just click the “screen” icon on the homepage to switch to “TV” UI. They recently changed TV UI from 1.x to 2.x and it’s much worse, but still it’s not “desktop” UI.

I agree that android TV UI and PMP TV UI 2.x are worse than the previous PMP TV UI 1.x and Fire TV UI.

PMP has 2 interfaces built into it.
Top right, click the icon to switch to TV Mode.

Using this vs a normal web browser when in that view allows more codecs then a normal browser would allow plus gives you access to all your admin settings.

I have to agree with @cihypan

I’ve been with Plex since 2012 on GoogleTV and recently on XBoxOne. Now, granted I don’t use these daily. However, trying GTV last week it had become inoperable once again, isn’t even available as an update anymore, so guess I’m writing that off as not permitted, DOA. My special needs daughter uses plex in the basement on the XB1, here again I rarely use that (I had chance to see the new awful interface, and she appears to have adapted albeit has been a struggle for her!!! guessing you UI experts at plex aren’t much caring about ADA) anyway, the videos were stuttering. So, I took some time to try to guide her to the XBox video folder which has the videos I had to reformat from mkv to xp4 for XB1 direct play support lo and behold, the stupid XB1 playback for XB1 supported containers apparently is also F’d up. I can’t get any of the HD videos to play back like they had been playing prior. Sorry Plex, I’ve had about enough. That plexpass I’ve been contemplating buying you can kiss my behind. Glad you’re progressing, not sure why, and screwing your loyal most users at the same time.

I agree with everyone here. My biggest issue is fast forward and rewind is completely unusable and no thumbs are showing.
Didn’t have any of these issues with the old app…
You’ve managed to completely kill your product on the Xbox.
UI is not intuitive, having to explain to my family how to navigate is a huge fail by Plex and plus our remote buttons no longer perform the same functions…Harmony One.

Ok so now with the latest 2.0.5 update no cover art loads when I select a library.

I select the icon for Shows and no art loads at all. I select the icon for Movies and nothing loads at all.

The only place I get cover art now is Home.

WTF are you guys doing over there???

And why is there only 6 known issues listed in the sticky at the top of this forum? There are plenty more than 6 issues. FF/RWD for one.

How do we actually contact Plex about these issues? This is ridiculous and I can’t even use plex anymore. It’s annoying having to go out of the plex app and back in every few minutes.

When you are literally grumbling under your breath “I hate this f****** app” because you want to see a random movie from a playlist, but you decide not the first one it picked so you skip to the next and it crashes back to dashboard for the 4th time in 2 days, then yeah it’s time for Plex to make some SERIOUS changes, SERIOUSLY fast.

I mean, come on! Was this not tested at all before roll-out?

Every damned issue brought up so far should have been EASILY found out in basic testing. These aren’t small bugs we’re finding.

Mine works now, every time (ish lol)
I still think Pic quality is better on Film and tv native app, Plex always looks darker.
But i am back to using plex, as it is how i am used to watching.

Edit. I am on x1x now, if that makes a difference.
I really hope you can improve this App for everyone, those that use the Xb app, use it a lot. I know i do lol.

I have to agree that the new interface on the Xbox One app is garbage. @Moussa can you please address the issue with HDR playback from the Plex app on the Xbox One S/X? HDR content from several other apps plays is displayed correctly, so it’s not the TV or the console.

still no fix to shuffle problem, still only loads the first couple of seasons from a huge library, barring this i might stomach the interface just to stop having to switch from Roku back to xbone so the xbone can turn my tv and receiver on and off, but shuffle is used nightly for me so this makes the app useless, 90% of what i use plex for is shuffling tv episodes.

Roku also has live TV, something i don’t use much but i have an outdoor antenna and i get 23 stations and would like to see that added.

if they want to fix it, get rid of “up” menus please, PLEASE fix shuffle, and also please add live TV.

@Moussa i hope this is in the works!

New Coke was the unofficial name for the reformulation of Coca-Cola introduced in April 1985 by the Coca-Cola Company to replace the original formula of its flagship soft drink, Coca-Cola.

The American public’s reaction to the change was negative, even hostile, and the new cola was a major failure. The subsequent, rapid reintroduction of Coke’s original formula, rebranded “Coca-Cola Classic” and put back into market within three months of New Coke’s debut, resulted in a significant gain in sales.

New Coke was discontinued in July 2002. It remains influential as a cautionary tale against tampering too extensively with a well-established and successful brand.

(I wonder if they offered a Plexi-Cola Classic “skin” what the numbers would be of those that preferred it over New Plex?)

Still major issues and no updates. Looks like Plex is dead for Xbox… Time to move on.

No clue where that came from but xbox is under active development and I think anyone reading the forums can see this themselves.

I’ve been unable to play a movie from beginning to end using Plex on Xbox One for 51 days. This is utterly ridiculous. I’m only playing movies locally and even this simple feature doesn’t work. When is this going to be fixed? Plex on every other device I own works perfectly in this regard.

Lol, think so? Check out the threads in the Apple TV forum about Connection not fast enough errors. Several mega threads, well over a year going. But seriously, I totally get what you’re saying. The new UI is horrible and has long-standing Xbox users and Plex advocates looking for other options. My point is, don’t get your hopes up for a fix anytime soon if the Apple TV issues are anything to base Plex support on. While it is probably my least favorite platform, Fire TV is really cheap and Plex works very well. Might be worth checking out.

All of a sudden i am 100% not working again.
Reinstalled app and server, signed in, says “The server “Plexy” is unavailable”
Reset router, xbox, pc the lot, still the same.
Plexy is available as a server from Film & Tv app.
My phone is also microsoft, so it is just a circle of loading dots what ever i do on it usually, but i got the plex app to work (most apps dont on this thing lol) and get this in server list - server name is greyed out, and constantly says testing.
Image from mobile and xbox respectively.

Well, I don’t own an Apple TV  also, I’m not getting the “Connection isn’t fast enough” error. I’m getting different errors. The errors I’m getting on the Xbox One I’m not getting anywhere else.

While waiting for a fix, I just have a separate USB hard drive with all of my movies on it. I just have it plugged into the Xbox One and use the Movies & TV app to play them. It’s an un-elegent solution but it works at least. It’s just frustrating because playback has never been a problem until the dreaded October 19th update. Now it’s completely broken.

No clue? How about the fact that so many people continue to have major issues playing and\or finding anything in their system since the update? How the ‘known issues’ post being incredibly incomplete? How about NO responses from anyone (even moussa) for over a week?

Active development? Probably actively trying to figure out how to force News on us.

Why don’t you tell us what is being actively developed? FF\REW getting fixed? Menu focus being fixed? Any timeline? C’mon let us know what’s being actively developed.
