Xbox one new app is trash!

PS It’s was hinted numerous times that Plex was listening to complaints and issues people had with the original PMP and xbox versions of the UI. This is now so much better.

Is it still top nested? And unable to select/separate view by server?

EDIT: Please tell me horizontal library scroll is gone…

I would call it a hybrid, the Top bar is still categories (Movies, TV Shows, Music, Photos, Videos) which I am not a fan of, but can live with.

On my Mac, when you select the category, the libraries show below that (instead of having to go up then over). So that’s good. There is also some editing ability on the library list, but I only have 1 PMS running at the moment so I don’t know how this looks with multiple servers.

I installed PMP 2.4, but didn’t get a chance to play with it before I had to leave for work. If I understand correctly, we can selectively show/hide libraries from other servers, but they’d still be grouped? That doesn’t sound easy to operate. I still want to be able to get into another server easily without having to admin settings, and without having them in my mix.

I’m going to really miss the old way of just selecting the server you wanted to browse… like it worked in the previous version.

That’s right, still grouped by Movies, TV, Music, etc. And there still isn’t a way to easily select a server. That would be a nice feature to add. At a minimum though, libraries for any server can be hidden. And the most used libraries can be moved to the front of the pick list (for each grouping) and stay at the front.

Is that handled in a settings interface?

So, basically they’ve done the bare minimum to solve the issue… an on/off switch for view. If you want the ability to easily access all the servers and their libraries, there’s no real change other than categorical sorting?

A hybrid solution (in my view) would be to organize libraries as they have in the past (vertically, selectable by server), but leave the actual surfing in the newer, sleeker format. The new, in library browsing is pretty hip guys! That’s really grown on me.

Sigh… I guess the biggest pain point for me is still painful. The question remains… “Who lists things horizontally?”

What about a bump up to a drop down? Would that work?

You bump up to your categories and are presented with a dropdown of libraries… you could then bump left and right through the categories to reveal their drop downs? Want out? Bump up out of them, or down one too many to exit.

A new “Server” category would rock… then you could select individual servers, or… “All” and everybody wins. You get combined, or single server sorting as you prefer. Only one server? No server menu!!!

I think I’m on to something here…

3 months and counting… can we just get a search feature back until this crap is revamped… about to look for an alternative for the XBox in the meantime…

Really like the new library options!

I got to play with it a bit last night. It’s a little less cumbersome, but I think they sacrificed a bit on look and feel. The transition when activating menus is instant/choppy. Having a smooth transition would have gone a long way for aesthetics.

If I were leading this design team, I’d expect this crossing my desk before release. It would get sent back with “Good effort, but is this the best we can do?” It definitely has a prerelease/beta feel. Unfinished.

It really doesn’t solve the navigational issues for me. I do like that you can handle customizations in the interface… but it’s an added step for me now when I just want to simply switch servers. I like my stuff over here… and their stuff over there.

This solution… it’s like trying to pick up a turd by the clean end.

It is awesome the way it is now.
Only thing to fix is the buffering part…

Please don’t shoot the messenger as I am only a volunteer forum mod. I have no say in design decisions. For all intents and purposes, I am just a user with forum moderation permissions.

This is due to the UX heading towards a unified-media centric design rather than server-source centric design.

There is an industry trend that was started by tech titans like Apple and Google. The idea behind this industry concept is to aggregate all the media sources a user has and present that to the users in one UX/App.

I get it, my friend. It’s unfortunate that they’re adopting the standard response: “But, everyone else is doing it!”

It could simply be solved with a choice to either mix or not mix. Everybody wins.

Just checking in and letting you know that I still hate the new super slow and clunky top library navigation!

I also still hate that my workouts are under “movies”.

Please let me know if there’s a better channel to vent my frustration.

they have made improvements, I’m still not fond of the layout but it has gotten better, not sure there is much that can be done but hope they continue to make it better, they did add live TV and this was nice as before my Roku was my only device that could access my tuners

I agree lots of improvement so far, but still a very long way to go to match the ease of use of the previous app.

I still can’t believe this FF and REW issue
Still hate the background color
Still frustrated with constant transcoding when the previous app didnt, and Xbox media player has no problem, with the same files as before.

But hey at least I can make it mostly through a movie now without a BUFFERING message showing up, so that’s progress.

Just want to say plex is an an amazing app, which brings much joy to my life… but ever since the update on Xbox one, I want to pull my hair out when Fast forwarding or rewinding. I use to be able to go to 120x or something crazy like that, with no problems. It used buffer once I choose my play point. Now however, after the update, it needs to buffer the entire time I fast forward or rewind. It’s painful to say the least. I’d guess it might go 5x or 10x at the fastest. I’m steaming content from a computer to Xbox one. Would absolutely love for this to go back to how it was.

The xboxe one Plex interface is absolute crap.

Now I just use my Roku for Plex.

Way to go guys…

This is the “new” user interface that is planned for roll out to all apps in time.
One can only hope they change their minds as it seems that more people dislike it than like it.

Hopefully it’s an indicator that we haven’t seen it roll out to any new devices after the Xbox. It would be really interesting to see the reaction if/when it hits the Roku/Shield. I’m hoping the pause is a good sign that they’re rethinking things a bit before moving forward.

How many people state they dislike it on here is not a true indication of how many truly like and dislike it. People are more inclined to post about something they dislike so unless the forum had a disproportionate amount of negative posts compared to other posts about liking or disliking something then they won’t be changing it based on this or similar threads. It’ll get tweaked no doubt based on feedback which shows certain things being user unfriendly but that’s about it. I get an Xbox One X today and currently have an amazon fire TV and NVIDIA shield and believe the Xbox interface is the same and I think it’s excellent but have never posted to say that just like most others haven’t who like it.
