I’m having issues with the new XBox app, which just randomly stops displaying subtitles. Subtitles just start displaying again if you pause, rewind, etc…
This is happening with different files and/or different resolutions, but doesn’t occur in other Plex platforms, be it Windows HT, Chrome or the Samsung app.

I think that subtitle bug is widespread across everything…

Any sub file just stops working after a few mins. I have to stop the movie and restart again for the to work again. To be honest the old xbox one app was fine, this just seems to be dumbed down. Anyway regardless of interface any update should improve the existing app, not diminish it.

For me, work around:
On Xbox app, before playing anything go to the settings under your username. Under video select burn subtitles.
After messing with this for hours, this worked for me.
Thanks Evil I’ll give that a go. I always thought when you use the burn subtitles it would then have to re-encode/transcode ?
Fusion5a, I’m not sure what they did on the design software. I believe the fault is in the automatic determination if subtitles are needed. Also, I found that trying to use them automatically the subtitles showed on the black bar below the movie frame. However, the burn in places the subtitles where you would normally see them, overlaid on the image.
I’d prefer it worked below, but I believe the auto determination sleeps or loops out once it makes the determination subtitles are needed.
So the software plays the subtitles and as soon as it doesn’t need them, it loops out and doesn’t check again if needed. It’s a broken code.
The work around it to always have it on.

On a positive note thanks Plex for adding FOLDER VIEW on the Xbox One for my movie series! I asked for it and I got it!

My issue is exactly the opposite. No matter what subtitle setting I choose in the new Xbox One app’s main/general settings menu, subtitles just randomly START showing. I don’t want subtitles enabled but regardless of the setting, every now and then (±30% of the time I play a new episode), the subtitles just start showing at the beginning of the show and I have to manually switch it off.
Same problem here…after a few minutes, less then 2 minutes, the subtitlers stop working.
Its very strange, this problem occurred a time ago and if i remember, it was fixed. And now the problem is back =(
