xbox one plex and dlna diference

Hi Guys ,

not sure what I am doing wrong but I have plex server running on the home pc and works fine.

Also dlna server is enabled on plex serve

I have installed plex player on xbox one.My problem is with diferent video format.

I understand that plex player should support the audio/video format of device ,it is installed on.

Maybe I am wrong here..

In oder words I have some movies in avi format. When I play them trought plex player on xbox one

they  freez and take a time till it starts....like there would be some transcoding or something.

But , when I play the same move via xbox one dlna player it works fine.

Not sure why xbox one would need to transcode files that can normaly play via dlna media player.

Other formats like MP4 works fine.

Any suggestions here.

Thanks

Martin

What codecs and containers allowed in apps are dictated by MS, with dlna it's again MS, the app was created with MS and those were specified in the app itself, which doesnt match what the hardware/dlna support.  I am unsure what the future holds in regards to this, but that's how it is for the moment.

thanks for reply…

I think I got it…

still , would be nice if plex on xbox one would naturally support same formats.

Even plex on my samsung TV works fine with avi.

thanks again

Yeah, its disappointing that even after today's update, Plex transcodes AVIs on my NAS which 'Direct-Play' via XB1's own Media app.

yep…pity
