Hey,
When I use DLNA I can play the older avi files with the Xvid video codec and mp3 audio. When I try to play these files through the Plex app I get “the server is not powerful enough…” error message. Considering the PS3 actually is powerful enough to play the file, why does this happen?
Thanks,
Ray
This has been commented on in a few threads but in summary the restriction is one created by Sony. They only expose certain capabilities of the PS consoles to App Developers and this means that apps like Plex can only directly play back some file formats despite the console having greater capabilities in it’s built in media player via DLNA.
Yes this is frustrating in that it requires the Plex server to Transcode more than you would expect but nothing that the Plex team can do anything about.
