Xbox One Plex App Update News

I hope you didn´t misunderstand me. Play/Resume fails from the Plex preplay screen.

While the video is playing I can use the normal German words for Pause / Play / Stop because this seems to be system level and is working as it should.

Understood. And I think I know the issue. Will take a look. Thanks!

Hi Dom,

Sorry to inundate you with questions at this stage but just out of curiosity will the Xbox one and Xbox 360 plex apps eventually have the same consistent interface of the PMP and PlayStation apps? I am just eager to see a unified looking interface across all my TV connected devices and have seen friends with PlayStation 3 and 4 where the interface is identical to that of the PMP and I am jealous (I own an xb1 and xb360). Can you at least confirm if this is in the pipeline for the xb consoles?

Thanks

The general look and feel across our big screen apps is intended to be consistent - so that’s PMP, Smart TV, Roku, (currently second generation) Fire TV, Playstation(s) and XBox(ens?). Obviously there are both platform differences and differences due to separate implementations/schedules.

Which bit of the PS3/4/PMP app are you jealous of? We can look into tweaking the XB1 UI to match

Feature parity and consistency is an ongoing effort, as you can imagine, so it’s something we work towards rather than promising dates. Hope that’s enough of an answer for you!

Hey Dom, I don’t pretend to understand the finer details of what is required, however I see the latest server update has some further subtitle support.

I don’t suppose this takes us a step closer to native subtitle support on the xbox one? Like 1.3 close?

Cheers

Thanks Dom.

I guess when I had a play around with Plex on the PlayStation platform it looked identical to the current version of PMP for Windows. That is the look and feel of the initial prompt to select user (plex home), library buttons on the left (upon logging in) being black with content icons as opposed to orange and bland, background art, dedicated recommendation and trailer buttons, sort/filters… etc.. I know some of these features are slated for the XB1 but I was hoping they would have the same look and feel as what is now becoming the standard interface on PMP. As for the XB360 it doesn’t resemble this interface not even remotely which is a shame as it’s now free to download which makes me doubt it will undergo any dramatic changes moving forward.

Once again thanks to the Plex team for the continued support. The app suit has certainly come a long way over the years and it is feeling more polished by the day which is always welcome

P.S. i have attached some screenshots from PMP as i dont have access to the Playstation apps at home however if memory serves me right the interface was identical to the screenshots attached.

Fast user switching (top dropdown) is still a planned feature for XB1, so hopefully soon. Tentatively 1.4 right now, but stuff shifts.

Sort/filter will be in 1.3. As will nicer buttons for trailer/recommended, I think.

The button reorg and blur on library/dashboard views are both relatively new on the TV apps - so thanks for the spot. I’ll raise internal issues to get both done.

Despite having been knee deep in both XB1 and PMP, I still missed those differences  Oops.

Thanks Dom. I’m sure I speak for all Plex users when I say your work along with the rest of the plex team is always appreciated and it’s comforting to know that these GUI requests are on your radar and will be addressed in future iterations.

Nice one Dom! Any idea btw when the 1.3 build will be submitted to Microsoft? Do you have any knowledge of the fact that there will be ‘One Store’ for Windows 10, Windows 10 Mobile and Xbox One…do we get a real Universal Windows Plex app when that happens?

I know it is Microsoft hands but do you know of any future hdmi-cec implementation on the xb1, this is the 1 wife acceptance factor missing.

Totally agree on that one. hdmi-cec would be awesome (and the wife is going to love Plex even more).

ps. you can also use the xbox media remote (works also great)

Hey Dom, thanks so much for all the info… Have you submitted the build yet?

We tried to submit 1.3.0 on Friday, and failed  (likely our fault on communicating the intent to MS). Ended up fortuitous since we found a couple of showstoppers over the weekend, so fixed those and resubmitted last night.

We should have a 1.3.1 as an internal beta today (this lets folk in the company with retail units to use the update), and 1.3.1 is with MS for certification now. At the very best, we’re looking at 3 or 4 weeks, but I suspect holidays and bugs/gremlins will easily slow that down. Will keep you all in the loop.

Thanks!

NICE, thanks for the update!

@“Dom C” just curios.

If you happen to know, what the fastest turn-around time thus far in working with MS from submission to available?

Carlo

hey dom what do you mean by folks in the company can use the update can you specify in more detail and does this mean people with plexpass get the beta update or no?

I thought certification takes about 1-2 weeks (depending on how fast MS is …)

The internal beta is for Plex Employee’s to test out the update to find more bugs while the update is in the certification process. As Dom C said about when the app update itself will be released:

@“Dom C” Sorry if this has been asked before… Are we going to see backgrounds on homepage and channel support soon?
I also wouldn’t mind having social networking added to android app to talk about currently playing TV or Movie. Example: new walking dead is on and want to talk to other watching same thing. ?

Certification will be a bit slower at this time of year due to holidays and increased submissions. MS have said at least 3 weeks. But I’m going to still be pessimistic and assume we’ll fail on something

Backgrounds on home page won’t be in 1.3, but we have the task tracked as something to do.

Channel support should find its way into 1.3, assuming nothing is horribly broken in certification.

Fastest turnaround from actual submission to release was 2 weeks, I think. That was a couple of lines of code to remove the (broken) screensaver. It’s also not just the actual certification time - we need to sometimes wait for a testing slot, and when it does get approved, we still need to wait until the next Tuesday release window.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for all this info Dom!
