XML URL commands are going to save my life

Well, not literally. But my life is going to greatly improve.

As part of the crew with files stored outside of the PMS, I don’t get the joy of using auto and partial library scans. Since installation almost a year ago now, I’ve just “dealt with” library scans taking a long time. Kodi allows for the update of a specific series, so to find that wasn’t possible on Plex was disappointing.

URL Commands

This week I finally finalized the process for updating just the shows where new content has been added:

[emphasized text](http://192.168.3.15:32400/library/sections/6/refresh?X-Plex-Token=MY.TOKEN&path=V:\series%20name

Where *.3.15 is my PMS, 6 is the “section” according to Plex, and V:\ is the TV library.

I can now add this week’s episode and update the library in seconds. Creating individual links for each series (there are about 30) is super easy and convenient for the next release.

It’s strongly recommended for people running PMS separate from their content. Even though this unRAID server is not as powerful as the current PC that’s hosting Plex, I have tried to install and migrate settings to the unRAID device. I’ve failed each time despite following online guides.

Doesn’t matter now. This method is perfect for now.
