One request: Can you make it display black bars for superwide or letterboxed HDR content? On my Sony A1, the bars are pitch black when viewing SDR stuff, but a terribly distracting gray when viewing HDR video. This issue does not occur with the built-in player, Netflix, or well as when using Kodi, so it must be fixable somehow. The only other app which does this is the official Plex one.

I tried to play HDR Sony Demo (3840 x 2160) and there was no any problemā¦
ThatĀ“s cause your Demo is āFullscreenā and got no Black Bars. Most Movies are 21:9 and then you got black Bars on a 16:9 TV above and beneath the actual Movie.
By the Way. Is it possible to show some Infos when you open the āMenuā while playing a movie? On the Top left Corner for Example the Movie/Series Name, Season, Episode Name?
And is it possible to directly skip 10/15/30 (what ever) seconds with the left/right button on the Remote?

Thatās why I every time ask for pictures, content or something elseā¦ Itās better once to see, than hundred times to hear

Possible but need to think. Because D-PAD is used for navigation between elements fistā¦

And did you mean buttons on the blue circle?
I dont know if its the same but i got the Nvidia Shield TV Remote

Love that related movies are now includedā¦ any thoughts on something similar for movie collections?
Crashes have all stopped for me, long back press is a big plus and has stopped me exiting accidentally. Playback of SD and hd continues to be flawless on my side which is the BIG plus compared to jerky and stuttering official android app.
Yea, the improvements are very good :).
But the Navigation (for Example in the Movie Section) is still a bit jerky, takes forever to get to the āEndā Movies, cause i cant use all the Alphabet Buttons :D.
But yeaā¦ Just the HDR and HD Sound Passthroughs and then it should be really fine 
Just noticed a couple of weird little things:
Home -> Recently added -> season of a tv show -> Press the right button top right to go to the next season -> Instead of going say s4 to s5, it goes to first season available, ie s4 to s1
I have a few random x files episodes recorded from season 4ā¦ 1, 4, 7 and 20. However, in the series page for season 4, they are listed as episodes 1, 2, 3 and 4, so just concurrent numbers and not the actual episode numbers
Forgot. Clicking the option for filtering in main movies section, doesnāt do anything. Sorting button works, filtering doesnāt do anything

Decided to give this a try, looking for better UI and fixing the 4k hdr grey bar issues on the sony bravia, but unfortunately the app doesnāt launch properly. Its stuck saying XPLAY and spinningā¦

I had a similar issue on my Sony. Off and on via remote did nothing, I had to turn the tv off at the mains to get the app and android to restart properly. It happened to me after I turned up the poster percentage quality if I remember rightly.
Iām a hufe fan of Xplay for WebOS already and using it often on my LG TV.
I just realized that there is also an version for Android TV now. I just downloaded the apk from your post from March 23 (0312.03) and installed it ony my Nvidia Shield. After Starting it just loads the Xplay Start screen with the Xplay Logo and then stucks with a spinning circle.
