Just reading a few things on a forum or two re Sony tv display settings, APPARENTLY, sony sets a number of things hard coded, such as display size etc. In effect, it forces the app itself to over ride these settings, which I’m presuming the Kodi -> Plex app do, and the Plex standalone as well. I’ve checked the picture settings for KP, Plex and XPlay apps and they are all hard coded the same, but obviously the KP and Plex apps are overriding:
APPS:
Wide mode: FULL
Auto wide: ON
4:3 default: OFF
Auto display area: OFF
Display area: +1
Now there is another type of app that Android recognises as a VIDEO APP. For these, Sony display them as:
VIDEO APPS:
Wide mode: FULL
Auto wide: OFF
4:3 default: OFF
Auto display area: OFF
Display area: +1
The only thing different is auto wide, which is OFF on Video Apps. Apps on Android that are listed as VIDEO APPS and act accordingly are Netflix, Amazon Video etc, and utilise these video app settings… don’t know if this is the issue?
It seems daft to me that Sony won’t allow you to override these settings on the TV, but it seems it might be that way. Any other info I can help with, please ask
It looks like the option is WIDE MODE which should be set to normal. Apparently, this option is disabled on resolutions of 3840 x 2160 on a sony TV… for some reason. here’s a link to the options and things that are disabled for certain resolutions:

hello, it works only on android tv? dont work on android mobile? connect with chromecast its possible?
Hi
Technically it can work on any android 5+ device but the interface is now implemented only for Android TV with D-PAD navigation. Cast is not implemented yet

for android tv there are already many applications for you to compete. I would recommend doing a job for samsung tv’s that today have no decent apps.

Any luck with the anamorphic issues?
Did you try the last update?
If there no result I will continue to find more in May. Little bit overwhelmed at the main job now
I guess it will be useful to ask the Sony support how to mark an app as a video app. Maybe they will give more information.
This and the passthrough option are my current tasks.

Yes, tried latest update, same issue I have video player settings to auto scaling.
Overwhelmed… no problem, as and when you can look at it would be great!
Sony… from a little digging, both normal and video app are locked to Full in the option for [Wide Mode], which appears to be the main issue. This setting: “[Full]: Enlarges the picture horizontally to fill the screen when the input signal is 4:3. When the input signal is 16:9 (High-definition source), select this option to display the 16:9 picture in its original size.”
The setting that appears to be different is that a video app has Auto Wide turned on, which: “Automatically changes [Wide Mode] to match the input signal.”
Sooo… I’ll ask Sony about how to mark as a Video App (may be part of Google Play Store instead, not sure), but XPlay would then need to output the correct signal, which I’m presuming is the case anyway.
