XPlay (WebOS)

Just do your best and try and release an acceptable version with the feedback in this thread. I think the solution is already posted. Keep up the good work Bubli! We are proud of you

I really like the new layout, it’s a great app, thanks for the effort. Since I upgraded it seems to have reverted to the demo version though - anyone have any idea how I reapply my licence?

Dear bublikoff,

Can we install the new app version stand alone , I mean not through the web store app?
The last update - as you aware- has a lots of bugs.

Thanks

I agree, It would be great to have an app we can install independent of the app store…
If the app is supposed to update internally anyways, we wouldn’t need to replace it later.

LG doesn’t allow installs through USB anymore. The only way to do this would be through a developers account, but then the TV would automatically remove the app after a short period. This is usefull for testing but not for actually using an app…

There might be some hacks around, maybe have a look at https://forum.xda-developers.com/web-os/general

To me, it still does not work, I have teh LINK PIN loop. Newest LG OS version, and the oct 11 Xplay.

any workaround?

Also, the new UI is a piece of Sh***

Not happy @bublikoff. PLEX may have shut you down in order for people to use their newest release (which sucks) Is there any update? Is their an alternative app? Can’t play any of my 4K HDR movies at all now for months

As mentioned multiple times, there is an update but LG released an older version of that which contains bugs and LG is now complaining that the newer version that will actually fix a lot of stuff, has some things in there which is not according to their guidelines. So they don’t accept the newer version, but they do keep an older broken version in the store. Such logic…

So if anything, blame LG. I also dont think this has anything to do with Plex conspiring against XPlay through LG. That seems a bit far fetched

We have to wait for LG to approve this. We could try and put some pressure on them through social channels but not sure if it will make any impact.

Why not tell the LG reviewers they made a mistake and they need to roll the version back to the one that they shouldn’t have pushed out. Escalate as necessary. They made the mistake, the onus is on them to fix it. I’ve done app development myself, and i’ve had to go through similar things in the past. There are support channels and staff that can be worked with to resolve issues.

Maybe if we all had a common location to lobby LG we could all pressure LG to get off their ass and help. Does anyone know a place/link we can be heard?

It seems like the past two times it took LG about 10-11 days to reject the update… here’s to hoping that today or tomorrow we will have an approved update.
I look forward to turning on my TV and getting the update notification!!!

In the meantime, I’m using the built in DLNA player which at least plays 4K better than the Plex app.

4k over DLNA on LG TV (what model)? I thought this is disabled by design, at least this is what they (LG support) told me. Can you please confirm the content is 4k.

Kind regards,

Hi,

Yes, the content is definitely 4K. I only use it for my 4K library… just watched a movie and it also came up HDR when it started playing. the DLNA player also shows the resolution in the bottom right corner when paused.

It’s an OLED55C7P.

Literally anything that XPlay can play, the build in player can also play, since XPlay uses that internal player (which is why it works better then Plex, as far as I understood).

So you can just turn on DLNA on your Plex Server and play everything through the build in app. It just doesn’t really have a nice interface.

Works fine on my B6, but I prefer to use something with a better interface  I do remember having some issues with external subtitles though, but can’t really remember.

Yeah, it doesn’t seem to pick up subtitles as well as XPlay or Plex.
I’m not sure how it finds subtitles, but 9 out of 10 movies won’t have subtitles in the DLNA player, while all of them have subtitles in XPlay and Plex.

Hi,

Unfortunately in WebOS 2.0 (55EG920V) is not working. I know the internal player can play 4k, but LG decided to disable this feature, kind of stupid isn’t it?

This is what LG said:
"I have actually checked into this and even the WebOS 3.0 and WebOS 3.5 do not allow for 4K via DLNA either and the reasoning for this would be that its most likely too much information to process to allow for 4K nad the most it will do is 1080p. "

Glad to hear it’s working with the newer versions of WebOS.

I’m having trouble logging back into my server after reinstalling the app. it keeps asking me to link and I’ve done it several times. it just keeps adding an authorized device but will not actually connect.

I’m having this issue as well. All of a sudden I wasn’t able to log in using my PIN and now I’m having to enter the plex tv link. Entering the code in a link loop, can’t get to user screen. Tried it with the plex app as well (LG OS) and same problem. Anyone find out how to fix this?? Thanks

I had to reset my tv to factory settings in order to get it working again. seemed to keep a cache of the connection to an older server that I removed from the authorized devices. I’m back up and running but it was very frustrating

Dang that would be annoying having to factory reset and redo all my settings. Hopefully something will be released soon
