XPlay (WebOS)

Just turn it off? You don’t need it when the internal tv screensaver does the job?

Hey there,
I used XPlay a lot until I switched my Plex Server “secure connection” to required. Since then, I can’t start a movie any more. Browsing is fine, but as soon as I select play, nothing happens. Is this a known problem and will be fixed?

Apart from that, I really like XPlay, especially the new version that came out in 2018. Keep up the good work!

I don’t think this is a XPLAY issue.
Just ran into the same kind of issue where XPLAY chooses the preferred SSL connection.
When running 4K content the processor in the LG isn’t fast enough to transfer data over SSL
I had to relink XPLAY to use http/no SSL and then it worked fine again.
This isn’t the case with 1080p content.

I know in normal OS’s they use hardware acceleration for SSL connections instead of using the CPU for this. Like on my Android device this works fine. I think LG hasn’t enabled this in WEBOS or the CPU doesn’t have this which I think is very unlikely cause they are quite recent CPU’s.
Not sure where to report this at LG but it would be something very useful.

Reported it to LG but my hopes are pretty thin they will implement it…although they did finally implement IPV6 :slight_smile:

Curious to know if anyone knows what is going on with Xplay on my LG OLED:

So it plays 4K UHD content great, but it won’t play certain movies that have larger file sizes. And it won’t play a lot of the anime I have, even some of the movies/tv that are smaller file sizes than the 4K UHD files it plays with ease. What happens is I click play and I just get that loading screen with the red circle spinning in the lower right hand corner of the screen. And it just stays that way forever. Well maybe not forever but I’ve waited for a very long time to no avail and I don’t want to just wait for 20 minutes and see if anything happens.

Sorry for the long post! Short version is, when using Xplay, I can’t watch some of my larger 1080p movies even though I have no problem watching 4K content that has even larger file sizes.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just recently I’ve pushed update to apps store
Here is the list of changes for 2.714.301 / 2.714.302

  1. The internal app’ algorithm was changed to deal with loop issue (No help from LG =( )
  2. PIN code can be entered by pressing numbers on remote control even without focusing PIN code input field
  3. PIN can can be remembered in Settings > Account
  4. User can be selected by it’s sequence number on user selection screen. (for eg the second user from the users list can be selected by pressing number 2 on a remote control)
  5. The app will go to user selection screen after app was switched to another app in case current user has PIN code and PIN code was not remembered in settings.
  6. Related content (collection) for movies are now supported. (Collections view mode is not supported for the moment). Related content is located on the bottom of the details screen.
  7. Thumbs are now not will be displayed while video player is starting for “Other videos” and when video content is not matched
  8. Search in section is improved for magic air remote. Posters will now not get focus until cursor is moving to virtual keyboard.
  9. Cinema trailers are now should work correctly and the app will get cinema trailers from PMS and will play them before a movie playback
  10. Transcoding settings were changed … should improve transcoing playback experience
  11. Video seeking in transcoding mode are now should work smoother … without restarting video player
  12. Watch status toggling button have changed its algorithm … a bit=)
  13. Filters titles are now translated … for some languages. The app get translation from PMS. If PMS has translated titles they will be used instead of English.
  14. Arrow scrolling for seasons and episodes list.

    and other bug fixes and improvements.

As this update contains too mach changes It can not update only main app’ file aver online update channel. But I can redirect TV to an online version of this version.
There is also some tech aspects why for the moment I dont doing it.
For the moment Im thinking about all drawbacks if I redirect all users to online version.
But I can redirect users individually if they want just email me your user id.

Hey @bublikoff there were several issues i listed as being a problem before, including:

  1. perf, and how much slower xplay is now.
  2. how is uses space much less efficiently, making it much harder to navigate or find things.
  3. how it was much buggier than before. often times movies/tv-shows simply will not play, and you just get a spinner that never goes away.
  4. how functionality was broken. For example, i have shows where i cannot get to some seasons because the app literally has no way to navigate to things.
  5. how overall experience has just degraded and made the experience much worse. For example, i can’t jump back to place where we last stopped watching a movie. We used to use this very often so we could watch movies over multiple nights.

Can you comment on if these issues have been fixed?

Note: could you consider actually using a proper bug-reporting tool to help track this stuff and so people can know when things are fixed. For example, github would be much better than having to have people try to report things here, while having no idea if they are actually fixed. Thanks!

Episodes also played twice if you don’t touch it at all.

Does xplay support viewing MPO files (3D photos) on LG TV?

My version xplay is 2.713.103. This version not working for my LG. In other LG (is new!), xplay version is 2.713.311. For this, xplay working!
Can you update xplay new version for my old LG?

I just started getting prompted to re-link my account every time the app launches, once I link again it’s working but this is new. I’m on version 2.714.129 on LG C7. Last time I hit an error where it kept asking me to re-link I had to wipe the tv down to factory settings to fix the issue, hopefully I don’t have to do that again now.

Same Issue here. Since yesterday it doesent work anymore.
LG B7d with same Version of Xplay.
Unlinking also doesent work for me.
maybe someone has a Solution ?

The new version 2.715.121 is simply horrible …
The Magic Remote’s pointer does not work, we have to navigate with the left, right, up and down arrows …
We still can not have all the local users … it’s blocked at 6 …
With each new version, we have to redo all the settings …
The dashboard is the same for all local users …
In short, a very very catastrophic version …

Since yesterday it doesn’t connect to the server, I have to uninstall and reinstall and link it to get it working.

Yes, I can confirm that version 2.715.121 broke everything for me as well. No scrolling, no pointing and clicking (only the up/down/left/right button works, but they have very limited usability), not possible to adjust the subtitles, settings forgotten… Disastrous update…

Hi - fairly new XPlay user here - how can I get the newest version on my LG SK9000PUA? It says I have the LG Web Store version 2.713.102, and I am seeing version revisions of 2.715 on this forum? Does it vary by device? Thanks
