It’s a shame, because this application had everything to be perfect …
I have it on two TVs on version 1, and it works great. But all my new TVs can’t get that version. Instead, they can only download the busted 2.x versions. I wish there was some way to copy the 1.x version from the other TVs to the new ones.
Although I’m still using V1 of XPlay I recentry tried out Emby which has a WebOS app with regular updates. Played everything I threw at it instantly. Might be a good alternative for people with problems. It’s not perfect but it works (for me).
Whilst the UI isn’t as user friendly and eye candied as Xplay/Plex, one doesn’t need to use the LG remote to control the app at all, as I just use the Android app on the phone to browse and commence/resume movies and shows. This functionality blows Plex and Xplay into the rubbish bin.
I am now done with Plex, Xplay and this retarded developer and suggest you guys do the same.
I will be now closing this forum from my permanent open tabs on Chrome.
Good luck all
I cannot believe I hadn’t installed Emby server prior to today
I feel the opposite. I like using the TV remote and prefer Plex because it is a much more capable piece of software. To be fair, I switched to Plex after using Emby (Media Browser–MB back then) and never looked back.
Do I miss the black background that Plex used to have? Yes, for sure. And do some of the changes that get implemented irritate me? Yes, particularly when they break functionality (e.g. the buffering problem that lasted a long time). But I switch to a paid version of Xplay to tide me over, which is an acceptable alternative for me.
Good god I am doomed. I’ve just updated my V1 version that was working perfectly fine and…
Yesterday I was using xplay without any problem, now I can even connect to my local Plex server. All that mumble-jumble that @bublikoff is saying about LG and “core problems”… It just worked perfectly fine and now nothing is working. And I’ve payed for that
Had weird 4K playback issues on my LG TV using the Plex app (played fine for a fews mins, then switched to transcoding down to 1080p). Tried XPlay, and was so happy after 1 movie I bought it. 4K streaming with no issues. Thanks!
I use XPlay to play movies with subtitles using direct play, which is not properly supported by the official Plex app. However, I can only select the very first subtitle in XPlay for direct play, others are marked with a (T), even though they should be supported (other SRT subtitles). Is there a way to prevent transcoding on these subtitle tracks?
I always make sure I have external srt files. Internal ones can be a problem. I don’t know the technical stuff… External subs never give me problems. In the rare cases I cannot find a sub I extract it from the main file. There are free tools for this.
So, i’m having the Red Circle issue, and it doesnt seem to have be resolved for a long time. Is the application not developed anymore, or is it due to the fact that LG isnt known to history for mankind to be the easiest to develop with?
I mean look at the Spotify App that got removed for WebOS 2.0
Oh, and btw… This will be my last LG tv ever, hence forward i’ll propably go with Philips and their AndroidOS instead
It’s not being developed anymore afaict. The developer no longer responds to anything. The twitter notifications completely stopped.
He basically lost (or threw away) the code for the original version, screwed up things afterwards, and decided to no longer continue with anything despite collecting people’s money. Oh well.
I did find an Nvidia Shield a while back going for a song. It can handle everything i’ve thrown at it, and it actually is supported (unlike this app). So it’s been well worth it to me.
It’s a pity. this is an app i would have absolutely kept using and recommending had the developer just left it alone when it worked well. I hope this is a learning lesson for him about responsible app development. However, based on his behavior and desire to just take the money and ghost hte community for several months now, my guess is that he’s learned nothing.
Is the app still being authorised if you pay for it? I tried the demo version on my lg c8 tv and it worked fine. I may be tempted to still pay for it if it still gets authorised, I’m wanting it to stream 4k hdr and this did it fine, whilst the official plex app won’t.
Hey @bublikoff; Whats the current status? Is the Xplay app still being worked on?
I am a very happy user of this app and would love to see that you continue development. In this forum people are not coders and programmers. I understand their but also your point of view.
But please keep us updated as we love the Xplay app, so much better then Plex native and Emby.
I can tell you that as a developer, the attitude of @bublikoff is intolerable …
He is supposed to work for a company called ITKEY and the guy is not even professional! He leaves his users in the deepest ■■■■ but he does not take time to take the money !!! IT’S NOT PROFESSIONAL !!!
So advice my guy, before criticizing the so-called non-developers of this forum, think 5 minutes … If you read all the posts of this forum, I hope you’ll understand that this @bublikoff had to find his programmer or developer degrees in a surprise package …
Because this moldy version 2 is still not 100% functional since its release in November 2018 !!! I say bravo the artist!
The guy does not tell us anything about the situation! On the other hand, to be sold on the twitter account to be able to launch Xplay on a fridge: WE DO NOT GIVE A F ** K !!!
So I found this topic while looking for a fix for playing 4K on my LG smart TV.
The official Plex app doesn’t work and basically everyone recommends xplay. Except in the last 2 months in this topic.
Do people still use it, or are the last month’s comments here speaking for everyone?
Edit: regardless of what happened I think we should refrain from scolding the dev. If anything we should be scolding Plex for having a bad app, not this guy trying desperately to fix it for us. If you know better, write a better alternative.
