XPlay (WebOS)

Yes I use the latest version for LG C7.

Since the time I say that this guy does not give a ā– ā– ā– ā–  !!!

Hello all,

I would suggest you a valid alternative to Xplay: Fire Tv Stick 4k from Amazon.
I am using it on my LG. I installed Kodi on it but you can also use Plex.
With Kodi everything play fine: 4k movies, embedde/not embedded subtitles, no transcoding with video and audio.
And last but not least, more less expensive than Nvidia Shield.

A cheaper alternative is a Raspberry PI with Plex. Using Kodi or other GUI.

Raspberry Pi4 looks like a better deal but can I use my magic remote with kodi and will kodi be playing 4k hdr or dolby vision content properly over direct play/stream? I don’t want another remote, my old android tv sony bravia 1080p can play anything on direct play to 1080p anything over it can’t handle as cpu and lack of ram in the old 2015 model and my nas server is armv8 qnap also so it can barely transcode 720p which i want to avoid. Shame the Xplay is rubbish right now and he’s stopped developing …

just installed x play…I think works fine for me…lg official client is broken, cannot watch hdr content…too bad is not developing anymore :frowning:

Found the solution for judder 23.976 Hz content 4K videos. Simple re-packing mp4 into mkv helps. It takes only a few minutes on my slow NAS CPU. Example with ffmeg on Linux:
ffmpeg -i Movie.4K.mp4 -c copy -map 0 Movie.4K.mkv

It’s working for most content but i got some movies that are in ā€˜720p’ or below and on Xplay it’s keep spining red circle and it stays like that for ever and official app will transcode, dlna by plex won’t work either so it’s frustrating as some old movies are hard to find in good copies in my native language, best solution for direct play is kodi but i don’t know if it supports hdr, dolby vision and it’s another device sucking up electricity. I guess i’ll have to live with it

A post was split to a new topic: Using the LG Web OS app

Hello,
is it possible to select a specific episode from a series with the XPlay TV app?

Hello. I am daily user of this app. My friend is also interested in purchasing it but we cannot find it on the LG Content Store. Has the app been pulled?

No it is called XPlay. It should be there although no new development right from https://forums.plex.tv/u/bublikoff @bublikoff

I discovered this app today because the official Plex app on LG had really bad performance with ā€œbufferingā€ messages for videos and slow loading of photos (new TV, 1Gbit wired network). It looks like the performance is much better with it. However I am asking myself: Why the heck is the official app so bad? I mean even the XPlay interface is much better and more intuitive.

I have a local NAS sever and I switched router with a different local IP,
Trying to access from LG TV.
in my previous router the IP address of the NAS was 192.168.1.101 and now the subnet is changed to 192.168.14.1.
The issue here is when I open the app, it shows list of 172.0.x.x, another IP and the old IP of the previous network.
There’s another option to locate the server locally by DNS at the network.

  • How can I set the DNS manually if it not detected automatically?
  • How can I can remove the ā€œstuckā€ addresses?
  • Why it isn’t detects my local plex DNS network?
Until it’ll not be fixed, I can’t use the app, local NAS/plex server isn’t detected.

edit: solved by changing few setting in the plex server side…

Since a few weeks almost everything I want to play with XPLAY throws an playback error when it wants to start:

ā€œThe video could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supportedā€

I receive this error in 90% of the cases (TV Shows / Movies). It’s a normal MKV with 1080p, nothing too fancy and when I switch the subtitle to none or without the red ā€œTā€ of transcode, it works fine.

So it has to do with the subtitle support I assume? Which is weird, as it’s normally just SRT.
What is wrong? Anyone have a suggestion.

I found this in my Debug/Verbose logging of the Server when I initiate a playback:

  • Unable to find client profile for device; platform=HTML%20TV%20App, platformVersion=3.8.0, device=SmartTV, model=
  • TranscodeUniversalRequest: unable to find a matching profile

Seems a profile issue? Any ideas / Suggestions?

Folks, the developer has not been seen on this forum since 4 months! Let“s face it, after all the hate comments and complains he got for the new version it seems he doesn“t care anymore and has simply abandoned the app and the users. Don“t expect an answer here, maybe try to mail him directy.
So far my Xplay app still works on my LG WebOS 1.4 TV, but it crashes a lot and works only flawlessly after I switch my TV off and on.

Hi did you solved it?

Starting today I can’t connect to my PMS using XPLAY.

The server is found (with the docker ip shown) but when I click on it I receive error message and can’t see my contents.

Any1 knows how to use the other accounts setup in plex with xplay? I only have the option for my own account to log on to my plex server with xplay.
when usind the plex player, all 4 accounts are selectable at startup?!?

I also tried the ā€œhome userā€ setting in the options, but it only connects the main account again. I really dont see the meaning of this feature right now?!?

Yeah so Xplay broke down with some latest plex versions.
I did some downgrading with my Plex and tested with build 1.18.4.2171-ac2afe5f8 and XPlay works fine. So as of now, DO NOT UPDATE YOUR PLEX IF YOU RUN XPLAY!
