You want to tell me I have to buy a new TV if I have 2014 Samsung model?

Hello there,

I am long time Plex user but had problems with the Plex client lately on my Samsung from 2014. Now I read there is only a new version of the Samsung app for the Tizen Samsung models. Is this true? You want to tell me I have to switch TVs every freaking 5 years to be able to run Plex? That’s insane.

Pissed regards

The old Samsung non tizen was a community built app, and I don’t think it’s being developed anymore. All tizen models are an official Plex version.

It is almost always a mistake to try and use built in apps on so called smart TVs. In most cases the TVs OS stops getting updated well before it becomes obsolete.

You are MUCH better off getting a dumb TV and using a set top box or even adding a set top box to a smart TV. Often smart TVs are cheaper than dumb ones but you should not let that prevent you from having the best experience possible.

You can solve most remote issues with any of a number of universal remotes. I use Harmony and I am very happy with my setup.

We did not start making an app til 2016. The other app was made by a community member who does not make it anymore.

I recently realised that I really ought to have bought a bloody Android TV instead of the Samsung one I was STUPIDLY, Unbelievably, IDIOTICALLY, 'what an utter moron-ically’, persuaded into buying in some Black Friday or Monday sale (yes I look back on it now as Black Friday all right…the darkness of the shadow cast by that fateful day will haunt me for longer than the multiple clouding spots all over this ‘amazing curved 4K smart TV’ has all over the screen…)
I digress!
Basically yeah, I just wanted to confirm the advice here:
BUY A TV WITH AN OS LIKE ANDROID that you can be the one in charge of!
That is all.

(anyone know what I can do about multiple clouding spots on a 2015 TV? sob!)
