100% CPU, becomes unresponsive, no activity?

Server Version#: Version 1.40.1.8227

Hi All,

I have an extensive library. I have 24 core Xen CPU with 128G of RAM. Plex DB etc runs on SSDs.

Randomly, my server becomes unresponsive. I have to restart the docker container daily.

I can see the plex PID @ 100% CPU. Plex grinds to a halt.

I’m trying to figure out why. It wasn’t transcoding, and no one was streaming. It’s not scanning library files or generating previews/intros, etc. It is idle.

I enabled debug logs, but all I can see is 3-4 logs every few seconds of players checking in… nothing interesting.

Can anyone help me to t-shoot what Plex is doing when it goes to 100% CPU and becomes unresponsive?

Thanks!

Is it possible someone tried to start streaming a movie?

hmm could be. i can’t see any work around in that thread tho :frowning:

Can somewhat try to prevent it by force-refreshing metadata for the movie first a few times, but it’s not guaranteed.

Unfortunately once it happens it just keeps going forever until you quit the server.

Hmm, i reverted back to 1.40.0.7998-c29d4c0c8 and it no longer is causing issues.

Seems the latest update caused it for me

I hope that is true as its a sneaky problem since you can’t tell which movie is causing it from the logs. If you suspect a movie though you can use the “view xml” option under “get info” that will spike the cpu, you can repeat this to bring your server to its knees

refreshing the metadata on the movie often will fix it, but as you add new movies it can then happen on those

My issue might be unrelated as i saw the spike after a server restart and nothing had been played. Reverted the version and i no longer see the issue.
