15 minute episodes combining but not showing

Probably a noob question but i can’t find an answer anywhere. I have several shows where a 30 minute episode consists of 2 15 minute episodes. I have each of these segments split into 2 episodes (i.e. labled Episode 26a and episode 26b). Now plex recognizes them as being part of the same episode and combines them but only gives me access to one of them assuming they are the same file. i have tried changing the names but all the metadata has them as the same episode so they just combine anyway. Any ideas? thanks!

Plex doesn’t support “episode subdivisions”.
Look up your tv show at TheTVDB. I think they show separate entries (episode numbers) for most of these double episodes.

www.thetvdb.com does list them as seperate episodes, so how to i get plex to see them that way and stop grouping them?

  1. Look up your show on TheTVDB
  2. Take the title as it is used on TheTVDB.
    If there is something in parentheses, take that too.
    If the title contains invalid characters (depends on your file system), like § : % *, simply leave them out.
  3. Check the naming and the folder structure of your show.
    Name the top folder of the show exactly after the title on TheTVDB.
    No abbreviations. No additional subfolders. No aliases.
    Add the (year) in parentheses of when episode 1 of season 1 of this show was aired.
  4. Name the episode files according to the above linked naming guide.
    Use the same title as for the top folder. Show's Title (year) - s01e01 - additional info.ext (’- additional info’ can be left out)
  5. After you corrected the naming and folder structure, perform the Plex Dance with all files for this show.

If you are still having trouble I finally figured it out. If you list the episode number based off of the episode number listed on TVDB it will pick it up properly.
For example S01E03 is the Parent Teacher Night and Walk of Doom. Here is how I listed these 2.
“Invader Zim S01E02” = Parent Teacher Night
“Invader Zim S01E03” = Walk of Doom
