2 Plex servers not visible at the same time after server migration

Server Version#: 1.20.0.3181
Player Version#:
Problem:
I cannot run the QNAP MediaNAS and Synology MediaNAS-2 plex servers at the same time. They will not both show up. Guessing there is a unique identifier somewhere that was copied during the migration and confusing the 2 instances into being the same. I normally run the QNAP MediaNAS instance and will attempt to bring the Synology MediaNAS-2 online. When I do, I cannot see both servers in my server list. If I use the web page, I only am able not able to see the server from the opposite NAS. Furthermore, any clients are completely confused and will only show one…but its random which one. More often, it will be the MediaNAS-2. I want that to act as a fail over, not the primary Plex server. Any ideas?

chain of events

  1. Had Plex running on Synology with server name of MediaNAS

  2. Synology NAS dies

  3. Order QNAP NAS

  4. Was able to get Synology running again with resitor fix/hack

  5. Back up plex server MediaNAS location on Synology using this guide:

  6. Get QNAP running with Plex server migration successfully keeping server name MediaNAS.

  7. Start original Plex server instance on Synology and re-name server/friendly name to MediaNAS-2

Will give that a shot. Thanks

That did work. Thank you very much. I only had to rename the preferences.xml file on the Synology. I can see both NAS instances in my clients and both of the NAS web pages. I appreciate the help.
