For the records: I signed up for a lifetime license because I was confident Plex offered a solid product. Having said that

I have the same issue that you’re all having with Plex on my Nvidia Shield Pro, which started beginning 2023 and today is Dec. 31st 2023. I tried using the Plex app on my Samsung TV (model from 2023), which has another annoying issue: each song is played for half a second, then restarted to play properly. That’s why I don’t use it, although I really would like to.

Another issue with Plex on my NVIDIA Shield is when I play music, Plex suddenly doesn’t output the song’s audio anymore, although the song continues playing (the play time indicator on the screen) If I then play any video stored on my NAS or from Plex’s Movies & TV then audio can be heard again. Audio from Netflix or any other app on my Shield also works fine, which means the problem is in Plex, not in my NVIDIA Shield or in my receiver.

Then there’s the issue with the album collections, of which I created quite a few. When I try to play one using Plex on my TV or SHIELD, my tv screen shows a blurry something that doesn’t look like album art of an artist’s picture. However, if I cast an album collection from Plexamp on my phone to the Plex player on my TV or SHIELD, then everything looks fine.

And I posted an update here on January 19th about doing a trial with Roon, which at first seemed to be a better alternative. Well after testing Roon incl. all the equipment involved, their settings and the entire audio path I conclude that Roon will convert the sample rate of high sample rate tracks to a much lower sample rate, unless you buy their hardware. That’s very poor performance at a very high price (license). I am not having that, since my SHIELD can play high sample rates, although I have my SHIELD set to bitperfect passthrough to my Yamaha RX a8a receiver with has two 384 kHz / 32-bit ESS Hyperstream ES9026PRO DACs.

This is how to set up bitperfect passthrough on a SHIELD:

  • disable [CEC volume control].
  • enable [HDMI fixed volume].
  • under [Advanced sound settings] → [Audio output] ensure audio goes to [HDMI]

With proper HDMI cables these settings leave the audio signal untouched until it gets to where it’s supposed to go, and in my case that’s a receiver.

So a long story short: I’ll stick with Plex because it simply plays my audio files without messing with them. And all those bugs that Plex has, well I guess I’ll just have to put with for now.

Server Version#: 1.32.8.7639
Player Version#: 10.6.0.5141 (3aa3109)

I have been experiencing this issue on both my 2019 and 2015 Nvidia Shield devices. They will both frequently play 2 songs at once.

I can start a song, then advance to another and the old one will still be playing along with the new one. So, 2 at once don’t work too well

I have some log files if anyone at Plex is interested.

Same problem here

2017 Shield 9.1.1

10.6.0.5141 (3aa3109)

Skipping to next track sometimes the track doesn’t start. Sometimes both tracks play.

Player crashes, glitches.

It’s unusable.

Update after update just continues coming down the pipeline, for what?

Broken features just remain broken.

I have the same issue, have had it a while. See on Reddit turning off Sweet Fades fixed the issue for someone. Mine was already off but after turning off volume levelling the issue has been fixed for me. Hope this helps someone else.

Sweet fades, sounds like a Feature of Plexamp Rather than the Plex native amp on android shield, for example?

I have the same issue with a Firestick 4K Max, no longer using Plex will be cancelling my pass when due.

Same problem here, two songs play at once, no way to stop it as far as I can tell other than a power cycle but that doesn’t even always work. I’m about ready to take a baseball bat to the thing, it’s going to frustrate me into doing an Office Space printer scene if it doesn’t get solved soon!

Long term issue which impacts one of the 2 main uses. Simply unbelievable that this isn’t addressed yet. Frustrating.

January 2024 and Plex on my Shield TV Pro still can’t play music correctly to save it’s life. You guys are forcing me into alternatives I did not want to pursue. But we all know you don’t care anyways

No this is on the ‘normal’ Plex app for iOS.

I can’t see it in setting can you screen shot where that is?

I just got this too. But frankly it is not the biggest problem on Nvidia Shield. The music experience is very very buggy on that device. Songs often just don’t start, or they will skip, unable to play the track. It’s slow. And yes, now when it actually does start it plays double instead sometimes.

Sadly this issue is still unresolved.

Still an issue on my windows server too.

Is anyone at Plex listening?

I’ve already replied to this several times. Unfortunately the fix as far as we can tell requires a major change which unfortunately has some issues implementing and will take an unknown amount of time.

Hi @BigWheel . There was no recent acknowledgment in this thread of the issue. I later found replies from you in another thread on the same topic.

Not good news for sure on the issue and what needs to be done to fix it. It is frustrating when I and others use Plex 99% of the time for music and it does not work.

Are there any playing methods (album vs playlist, etc) which don’t produce this issue if you manually advance a track?

I had this problem for a while, but I have (at least temporarily) made it stop. I don’t know what exactly solved it, but I do remember re-installing once or twice. The most recent was to use the pointer to hit the stop button several times — not the play/pause on the remote. I used the pointer on the screen. Wish I had a more definitive fix, but now that it seems to be working, I’m not doing anything to make it happen again.

I always use the onscreen play / stop buttons. For a moment yesterday I thought it was fixed. I listened and skipped to 5 different songs. Then it came back. Once it starts you pretty much have to restart the device (Nvidia Shield in my case) to get it to go back to normal.
