So resetting the cache will make some videos work for a bit, but then some just won’t load, and eventually trying to load any will give me the error above.
The exceptions being some IPTV channels I pipe into TVHeadend which consistently work…… the OTA channels served to plex by TVHeadend are the ones that are having the issue. I think if I transcode them on TVHeadend they’ll work reliably, but I haven’t worked out a TVHeadend profile which works with plex yet
I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s an audio codec issue. I’ve I disable “Allow Direct Stream” I get no audio but video plays fine in every stream. If I have it enabled I get audio on some of the streams (the ones I’ve mentioned work fine) and the errors on the ones I’ve been having issues with.
So I’m going to look at using TVHeadend to pas through the video codec and reencode the audio stream…… but that’s a tomorrow job.
Yes. I use two HDHomerun tuners in my setup and the iOS app will only tune live tv from one of the tuners. Also, the guide data is incomplete. The navigation of the guide sucks. We used to be able to swipe forward and backward, but now you have to use the nav buttons, which are small and not very useful as they have to be pressed for each 1/2 hour movement in time. Finally, tuning and caching for starting a live show are way too slow.
Has there been any acknowledgement that Live TV is broken yet? I’ve just seen the beta release notes and it’s all fixing minor UI/UX issues rather than fixing any problems.
Even a “we’re looking into it” would be appreciated at this point
OK. I’ve been experiencing this issue ever since the “big PLEX experience” upgrade and my local live TV stopped working (HDHomerun quad tuner). I was getting the “A server with the specified hostname could not be found” error like some of the others here. However, I believe I found a fix/workaround.
First, the clue came when I switched my iPhone to use cellular only. Then I was able to play live TV without getting the aforementioned error message. I did a bit of digging and it turns out it may be related to a DNS rebind issue. I reconfigured my ISP router (Verizon) to disable DNS rebind protection and my live TV worked again locally.
I am not happy with this situation because I am not certain I’m exposing myself to cyberattacks, and this has never been an issue before until PLEX came out with their “big upgrade”.
Now, that things are working… sort of. Not all channels start up correctly. It takes me a few attempts to get things going. By monitoring the dashboard, I can see live TV playback ceases when you go to the home tab on the updated app. Otherwise, it just keeps on going.
I think part of the issue related to getting the channels streaming has to do with encoded captions (ie. MPEG2 streams with EIA608 encoded captions). If I turn off subtitles, the live TV playback works, and then I can flip the captions back on. (but that’s a crapshoot that goes back to PLEX’s live TV experience before this “big update”).
Look into the DNS rebind issue and see if that solves it (part of it anyway).
Hope this helps others.
PS. sidenote - I tried JellyFin, quickly. Found out that their LiveTV implementation does not support closed caption streams embedded in MPEG2 transport streams. Big nope from me. Seems like PLEX is the only game in town in covering this particular functionality (and half baked at best).
2025.17.0
iPad mini 6
Streaming from hdhomerun extend
Since big iOS update, guide entries are completely blank. When streaming a station, black screen (but audio works)
Web client works fine, VLC works fine.

So on 2025.17.0 (1082), live TV is playing the BBC IPTV feeds I run into tvheadend absolutely fine, but the non IPTV feeds which tvheadend takes from the aerial are still having the same issue.
With direct play enabled and direct stream disabled in iOS I get video on all channels but no sound.
All channels play fine on the Samsung TV app for tizen, which is my main use and I’ve disabled updating for.
Yes get the same error too! on iPad pro and iPhone 14 Pro, all works fine via MacBook and Safari, also works fine on Apple TV. Just iOS it appears (and Android I see from other comments)
2025.18.0 (1109) fixes live ota tv playback but the guide for my hdhomerun channels still show as “unknown airing” on the iOS app. Web has a perfectly working guide.
