Live TV - Plex it is time to fix these common issues please

Server Version#: Latest and previous versions
Player Version#: Latest, including most recent beta (and three previous versions)

1 - TV guide doesn’t show any details for anything other than current day. Ie choosing tomorrow or another day in the future and my EPG is blank. This is not the case in the web client or macOS client, they work fine.

2 - Picture in Picture is totally broken, pressing the button in full screen does nothing.

3 - Regular issues with playback "Error Occurred - The operation couldn’t be completed. (CoreMediaErrorDomain error 1718449215)

These issues have been reported at least 8 or 9 times by various people and confirmed by many more. Absolutely no response from anyone at Plex, no mention in the “we got it wrong and we are going to fix it” posts that are at this point embarrassing for the Plex team.

Plex has indeed totally lost the plot, doesn’t care about its paying users (Live TV is a key upgrade feature, but hey, who cares about users).

So right now I’m using Infuse because the media playback is so bad with the new version of the app, specifically download, transcoding issues etc etc etc. And my one last remaining use case was Live TV playback, that I have now gone back to Channels and HDHomeRun app.

I’ve never had a app upgrade / re-write force me to totally stop using an application before, well done Plex, you’ve managed to almost totally destroy your product, and apparently not care at all about doing so.

Apologies for the rant, however at this point given the lack of any meaningful response from so many people reporting issues, I think it’s beyond time.

Screen shot of issue (I’ve posted others, but why not)

PS - Perhaps until we see stability in the app and features, you could maintain a clear single resource for updates on known large issues like this. Better clearer communication will help, and I understand it adds burden, would remove some heat.

Perhaps a single pinned post under Announcements or Plex Players - Mobile Devices for the next 3-6 months?

Right now, unless I go hunting through various threads it is impossible to see any specific acknowledgement of issues with Live TV or the many other larger issues people are commonly reporting. Reporting issues to have zero feedback is really fanning the flames caused by the premature application update release.

Just a suggestion.

This is the most annoying issue of all the ‘new app’ ‘features’.

I’m in the UK, so perhaps the data in our Digital TV streams are different to the US, but with Direct Stream enabled I always get “CoreMediaErrorDomain error 1718449215” on Live TV playback (any channel).

If I disable Direct Stream, and hence force transcoding, I can get pictures but no sound. Looking at the Dashboard the audio is being transcoded to OPUS – is that a good idea for iOS? I thought support is limited.

Is there a way to force the transcoder to use a different CODEC? That would, at least, be a stop-gap until you get Direct Stream working again.

The big ‘sigh’ is that Direct Stream worked perfectly in the old app.

I’m using Plex Media Server Version 1.41.7.9799 on Linux and the latest version of the iOS app (2025.16.0 (1068)). on an iPhone 16,2 running iOS 18.5.

It is the little things that bug me about the new app. When I finish an episode on my iPad and I want to replay it, I cannot do it because the icon is so small. it is also hard to play the next episode because of the same reason. I am on a 13-inch iPad. I can’t imagine doing this on a phone.

@McWanke Plex live tv OTA is useless on iOS, many people have posted complaints with logs. I’m sure you’re working on a fix, but a statement such as, “We’re working on it, it’s due to dns rebinding and forced transcoding because the new app doesn’t support mpeg2ts.” Or anything along those lines would be helpful.

Preferably I think the entire Plex community would benefit from a stickied post stating known issues that are being worked on. You don’t need to give time frames, just acknowledge things that are on the to be fixed list. Then maybe the developers trying to fix it could make posts requesting logs, you can lock the posts to stop the endless complaining but allow logs to be sent via message. If you wanted you could even create a Plex forum user for log submissions like you have the “PlexRelease” user.

I’m sure the team is working on this and not twiddling your thumbs, but the product can only get better/fixed with clear communication. The forums have become a large sea of negativity and I think a lot of us would rather just work towards a fix rather than continue to float in a broken polluted ocean.

What is going on with the no response from plex support. I have been having an error message.

Really annoying. However when I record a show playback is totally fine.

if you switch to cellular or use a vpn the hostname could not be found error goes away and as long as your pms can transcode live tv playback will work.

not ideal but it’s a workaround till they fix.

Thanks for the reply. I used cellular before, and it worked. I just tried the VPN and It worked. Thanks for the VPN suggestion.

Thanks

@McWanke can you comment if this is in the ticketing system?

I just saw an update to the Plex iOS app was available (ver 2025.19.0), with such anticipation of this including a fix for this Live TV issue I downloaded it and started it up ! … Boo Hoo :frowning: still same issue exists, I cannot view any guide data more than approximately 16 hours ahead!! All fine on Apple TV and Mac OS safari . Running Plex server on Synology NAS and HDHomerun as my tuner . Synology Server version 1.41.8.9834-70009834 .

any updates on this issue? android tv clients will open tv live stream on occassion for a few mins before crashing on latest beta on plex server as well as latest client.

IOS client app seems to be failing on live TV epg but live streaming channels works fine. seems live streaming on android is completely broken.
