2025.16: Still Having Problems with Weak WiFi Signal

Since I started using the new plex experience, I have been having issues with using it with my iPad when my WiFi signal is not great. Think like two bars instead of three full bars (using it in the bedroom vs. using it near the router). Never had problems in this location with the old app and don’t have problems with any other streaming services either.

Just upgraded to 2025.16.0 and the problems are still there. The main problem seems to be that it crashes after playing videos, typically more than 30 seconds but less than five minutes. I recall having issues both playing videos from the server, and playing downloads (unless I put it in airplane mode). I also was not able to download videos unless I had 3 full bars.

My hunch is that there might be something in the background that is requiring a constant connection to the server and it can’t seem to handle a spotty connection.

Again, never had a problem on the old app.

Hope this gets fixed.

Still seem to have the issue with 2025.17.0.

The issue was not present (with 2025.18.0) when connected to a hotel WiFi. Seems to be an issue when weakly connected to my home WiFi.

Still seems to be an issue with 2025.20.0.

However, I have noticed that the problem with restarting seems to be less of an issue when I have either WiFi or Cellular service turned off. So it seems they both don’t need to be turned off.

That being said, I still get some problems when a file has been paused for a while and getting it started again, even if both WiFi and Cellular service are off. EDIT: It seems to be most common when the file has been paused long enough that the iPad screen goes to sleep.
