Skins: no.
Skins have nothing to do with plugins.
Otto,
So I can use the unofficial PLEX app store I have heard about?
Thank you !!
if you mean webtools, that is for plugins, which are being deprecated, and the webtools itself is no longer being updated.
so, the short answer is yes, but the long answer is not for long.
Thank youâŠI just do not understand why PLEX would not allow customization if a user wanted a different look, font, background color. Do mot get me wrong I love plex I just donât unerstand why different looks to the interface are not supported
well, plex is great but certainly not perfect, and (lack of) more user customization (plugins/skins/etc) is one of the weak spots.
from what I gathered, one of the main thing about the loss of plugins is the deprecation of the underlying technology (old python version) and lack of priority and development resources to bring it up to date (and keep it to date).
Do you think eventually PLEX might return to plug-ins or allow for customization ?
Everyone has different tastes that is why I am perPLEXed that this does not exist. I won an android smartphone instead of an iphone because I love to tinker under the hood .
I can only hope, but so many other problems/requests/improvements also need to be worked, so who can say.
You can only properly judge something by what it is now, not what it was, or might be at some unknown point in the future.
Plex wonât be returning to plugins.
There is some customization available in the UNO versions of Plex clients.
All you can do is change between two predetermined backgrounds.
What is uno?
I donât think Plex has many nails in their coffin yet, let alone being down to the final one.
Theme selection is a fairly common feature for software.
UNO is the latest Plex client nickname. Itâs on the Roku so far. Maybe another platform, not sure.
UNO just means that Plex are trying to get all platform clients to be uniform in appearance and function.
Question for you great guys,
I have already 1 TB of TV shows on my Media PC running PLEX
If I wish to run movies only on a second Media PC with another server name but under my same log-in can I?
If so, will my smartphones, tablets and smart PC Plex apps be able to differentiate between the 2 servers under the same log-in?
Thanks !!
You can have almost as many servers in your account as you like.
Make sure to name your libraries uniquely. If you have on both servers a library named âMoviesâ, then users will get confused. ![]()
If you have one server with only tv shows and the other with only movies on it, there is actually no need to differentiate the servers.
On the mobile apps, the users will simply select their media type âMoviesâ or âTV Showsâ and will automatically access the right server.
(This will come to the other client types in a similar fashion, once UNO is released. Until then, you will have to âswitch serversâ in the web app and on Android, AFAIK.)
Otto,
I truly understand so much of PLEX thanks to you and Everybody else here I LOVE IT
I already have close to 2tb in TV shows as I begin my Movie folder now
I only wish it had NETFLIX razor sharp TEXT and thumbnail resolution on a 1080p or 4k 65 inch TV
Do you feel one day this will be addressed?
Thank you !
If your media source is DVD, you wonât get Netflix-like sharpness/resolution.
For this youâd need Blurays.
DVD has only âSDâ resolution (640 x 480 pixels)
Bluray has usually 1920 x 1080 pixels
Plex has no problem with Bluray-resolution media.
I rip also 1920 x1080 blu rays into mkv but the thumbnails and text of description of movies are not sharp on screen while movie itself is
Which client type are you using?
Hi Otto,
I hope this is the right answer,
My PLEX server ( latest updates) lives on a high end Windows 10 PC with three 4k monitors and 500/40 internet
I stream to smart 4K TV in my house and my smartphone/tablets.
in handbrake I use the 2000kbps settings for everything while it goes into a MKV container.
TV Show/Movie quality is fine just poor metadata quality which gives the movie or TV show description and thumbnails poor quality on smart tv screen.
PLEX would be perfect if the sharpness of text onscreen and thumbnails were sharp
Thank you !
Hey everyone,
I have added so much media to plex itâs UNREAL LOVE IT
Now, I am going to my vacation home which has a smart tv with a plex app and a PC
My question is with the remote pc.
When I download the PC software how should I configure it? As a server with my credentials I use here or as a client if that is possible?
If it is possible, does the desktop appear to me as it would at home?
I did experiment the last time I was there with plex but deleted it from my pc
If the smart tv at my away home briefly connected to the away from home pc, can the smart TV plex app be able to see my home pc (left on of course)
Thank you !
if you have good internet connection, you can stream from your HOME to your AWAY from home.
you need to use the same login.
If you want to stream to your AWAY PC then you install the pc plex app or use Plex Web in a web browser.
The same for your smart tv, you log in the tv app with your existing account and connect to your home server.
If you do not have internet connection or is too slow, you would probably want to copy your content to a local pc or nas, and setup a second server on the same account. You would still need internet temporarily, but once setup can configure for no internet.
Do note that even though you can have multiple servers with 1 plex account, they are all separate (no shared watch/stats).
