FWIW I got tired of waiting and decided to give Emby a try. I’m using Open Media Vault with Plex and Emby in Docker containers. Set up was very easy and quick. There are easy to follow YouTube videos that walk you through the setup. Now I have a working guide and DVR!
Still broken: https://status.plex.tv
While they are sorting thru this issue, found this:
Interesting read. Cloned the git project mentioned in the post:
https://github.com/azlm8t/tv_grab_az_sdjson_sqlite
Not sure if this is right; sharing params to download json listings from schedule direct:
./tv_grab_az_sdjson_sqlite --output out.xml --days 10 --channel-short-days=3 --merge-split=5 --artwork-max-width=720 --update-description-with-all --update-description-with-artwork --update-previously-shown-with-year --cache-driver=Redis --cache-ignore-unchanged-programmes --benchmark --cache-ignore-unchanged-programmes
Followed the instructions in post to setup dvr with xmltv. So far its importing the guide via the schedule direct data.
YMWV but hope this helps.
Gracenote is the provider for my backup DVR as well as Plex, and I’m not having an issue on that system.
Just tried to update EPG and this time it completed without errors. Is this fixed now? What was/is the problem? Will this occur again, as it has many times?
Definitely not fixed. I still die after 3%…
This is really frustrating. It’s definitely not critical for me yet but if this goes on past March 11, which is the last day I have recordings scheduled for, I am going to have to make different plans. Part of me wonders how solvent Plex is right now? Is this EPG outage due to a technical problem or is it due to financial problems?
Love me some FUD—just a technical issue…
Funny. FUD, huh? More than a week without a reliable DVR and no acknowledgement from support until the last two days which amounted to nothing more than “Yeah…it’s broke.” We already have our appointment to get DirecTV back in the house. I love Plex but it has failed the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor).
Enjoy!
I managed to follow instructions from here to get the Zap2it TV Guide into an XML file which is usable by the Plex Server. I now have Guide data for a little over one week rather than just a few hours at a time. I have scheduled one of my PCs to grab the data from Zap2it every four hours. So, hopefully, Plex will update itself from the local XML file that was generated whenever it does maintenance or guide mini updates.
However, for some strange reason, recurring programs aren’t being flagged as being recorded. For example, for the daily 6 PM local news, I set it to record all new and repeat airings, but only the first one shows up on the “Recordings” screen. The ones for the rest of the week are ignored. I will keep an eye on it if the one for tomorrow actually become scheduled after midnight, and of course, being recorded tomorrow.
We still need this fixed by Plex/Gracenote, but at least I am able to record shows and watch live TV using Plex for the time being.
Yeah, if I need to completely rebuild my DVR again and redo all my timers and watches then I’ll just go ahead and do it in Emby.
Edit: And yes, I know, Plex doesn’t care if people leave, they already have our monies, and that’s all that matters.
Plex has said nothing other than they know there is a problem and maybe that they know what the problem is. It’s not inconceivable that it’s a technical problem but one that’s been going on for more than a week?
I like Plex but their technical support leaves a LOT to be desired. Especially when it comes to a relatively serious problem as this. Granted, there is some leeway because existing users have some time before it really becomes serious but they may not be able to retain new users who are attempting to use the DVR for the first time. They are also screwing existing customers who are trying to troubleshoot this by redoing their DVR.
While it’s pure speculation due to the silence coming from Plex I don’t believe it is out of line to question the real nature of this issue.
I’ve had success using OTA guide data rather than cable.
Which is frustrating as I pay for HDHomeRun Premium TV and can’t get guide data for the paid channels.
But at least I get anything at all.
update. 1 successful guide update made it to 100% for Seattle area.

Just tried update again on Shield TV and fails with 404 error again. This is very frustrating.
I’ve installed Emby on the Shield for testing. Less well developed product but it may at least update the guide and actually record shows. Biggest disadvantage is I’d need to live with commercials again. (sigh).
What areas is the guide not working? I’ve had no problems in the central US time zone.
I’m near Portland OR…97123.
Central time zone here, still failing around 50% (if it doesn’t die immediately). The channels I care about have changed their lineup since I last got a full refresh, so unfortunately most of my scheduled recordings are incorrect.
Hoping I can get a full refresh today and at least get this week sorted out.
I did just achieve 100%
Get them listings while they’re hot & fresh.
First time in over a week I have finally hit 100 %. My area is Northern Virginia, OTA broadcasts, and my guide looks accurate. I am hoping this is absolutely resolved as, I was not comfortable that I could rely on Plex to record my selections, and had begun to use backup applications.
