Аnd this is not an argument that both TVs FXW754 and FX780E use the same firmware Version 3.114? How it can be?

and only one TV FXW754 supports PLEX
sad and funny
It has nothing to do with firmware. Plex worked with Panasonic to check if our app worked on their devices. The list we have is what Panasonic told us worked so those are the models we check for. Whether the FXW754 is the same as the FX780E and if our app works on there or not, is not up to Plex to decide. If you think these are the same and Plex should work the same, you’ll need to reach out to Panasonic.
Interesting approach, then I guess it is up to Panasonic on why the Plex is available for “not supported” models?
Also in the other thread Playback issues (Panasonic Smart TV) you can see that it was working just fine before for the users and it started presenting this behavior only after an app update.
And you say that your app is doing this check and enforces the bitrate limitation, why then not add an override switch in the app, I accept any possible issues in my “unsupported model”. Or change the behavior and put a switch on the server side since you anyhow send the model number
The app has always been this way so not sure how an update changed this. That original post sounds like it was a firmware update and not a Plex update.
So, I called Panasonic technical support in my country. The answer was this: if the Plex application is present in the TV market then it is supported by it and should work. If not ask Plex. If does not work ask Plex. And what to do?
It is “supported” in that the app will play videos, but it’s capabilities will be limited because it is not a model we have specifically tested and confirmed that higher capabilities would work. So something may not as you expect because of these limitations, but the app is actually working as expected since that is how it will work on these devices we have not tested on.
When I came to this forum, I expected to receive technically competent answers to a specific problem, namely: why did plex work before, but after the update it stopped working correctly? what is technically wrong in Panasonic TVs, why are they on the unsupported list? What happened over the last year with the TV and it became unsupported? competent answers are not observed … sorry
Here’s some background. Previously Plex Smart TV apps were available by brand, i.e. Panasonic. The manufacturer then decides which specific models the Plex app will be available on. Plex did not do a check for this, unless specifically asked to. Due to how Smart TV apps work, any manufacturer can choose to allow the Plex app to be made available for their TV even if they did not work directly with Plex. Plex did not want to block these TV’s from having the Plex app, but since they were unsupported the app runs with limited capabilities, since Plex would not know if these TVs would be able to handle codecs like hevc or high bitrates.
Panasonic made a change and told Plex they would only be supporting specific models, so Plex made this change and whitelisted only the models we were told. The list has been mentioned before. Panasonic chose to allow the Plex app to continue running on devices not on the list. Since these are no longer on our whitelist, they run with these limited capabilities. The other option would have been to not have the Plex app anymore.
Panasonic smart TV has its own built-in DLNA player that supports hevc and high bitrates. It means that HW and SW of smart TV are ready for it.
3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project, .3gp) AVI (Audio Video Interleaved, .avi) Flash Video (.v, .f4v, .f4p, .f4a, .f4b) H.263 H.264 / MPEG-4 Part 10 / AVC video H.265 / MPEG-H Part 2 / HEVC MKV (Matroska Multimedia Container, .mkv .mk3d .mka .mks) QuickTime (.mov, .qt) MP4 (MPEG-4 Part 14, .mp4, .m4a, .m4p, .m4b, .m4r, .m4v) TS (MPEG Transport Stream, .ts, .tsv, .tsa) VP9 VOB (Video Object, .VOB) VRO (DVD-VR, .VRO) WMV (Windows Media Video, .wmv)
built-in DLNA player that supports hevc and high bitrates
These players often rely on software decoding for many codecs instead of building it into the hardware. Plex’s app does not have access to these software decoders so it must use hardware. Comparing the DLNA player to Plex is not equivalent.
There’s also other factor besides just the codec and bitrate. Have you tried an hevc file that doesn’t require transcoding. This may just work. For bitrate, have you tried a 50 Mbps or even 100 Mbps file. Some supported TVs even have a limit of 20 Mbps because that’s as high as the manufacturer would support.
When a file is transcoded it uses the DASH protocol as has been mentioned before. The TV may not handle that properly, Plex wouldn’t know. The DLNA player does not need to deal with streaming protocols.
Again, it is Panasonic’s decision on what models are supported. If you think they should support Plex on your TV, you need to talk to Panasonic.
But what I don’t get - when Panasonic provided you with details for its latest generation JZ OLEDs then you know which capabilities (also in view of hardware decoding these models support).
Why does it still say „generic“ in the Plex Dashboard when a movie is played via the Panasonic native Plex app?
Panasonic gave Plex a specific list of series, it does not cover an entire family of products. Is you TV model JZW2004 (OLED) (2021). If it is then there’s a bug and we might not be reading the model number properly. Please enable “send logging to server” in the Plex app on the TV, try to play something, then grab the server logs. Also provide me a screenshot of the about page in the app so I can see what else the TV has identified.
Ok, it’s the JZW1500 which is identical to the JZW2004 (which just has added loudspeakers). If the JZW1500 is not on that list, then this is an error. Can you check if it’s on the list?
It is not on the list. As mentioned, Panasonic provided a specific list. Although the JZW1500 may be similar to the JZW2004, but we check for a specific model number so this will not match.
As I wrote earlier, the list of unsupported Panasonic TVs looks very strange. It looks like there was an error somewhere. You write that such a list was provided to you by Panasonic, which means that you have a connection with them. Is it possible to clarify with them again the list of TV models that support plex, because there are a lot of complaints on the forum regarding Panasonic TVs. Or if it’s not a secret, give their email and we’ll write it ourselves.
We are reviewing your support articles to make sure the TV’s are listed correctly. However, the apps are already following the correct list so nothing will change. I don’t have Panasonic’s email, that’s above my pay grade. You can try contacting them through their website. This is their North American site, which is where I’m located. Official Consumer Product Support - Panasonic USA If you are somewhere else, you will need to find the correct page for your region.
