4k HEVC Video Crashing Plex Constantly -- Need help!

Player Version#: Plex on Android TV (Nvidia Shield) 7.31.0.16802 (00d577ff)

I’m getting crashes when trying to watch various 4k videos.. it’s been inconsistent. I got a copy of the new Michael Jordan mini-series (The Last Dance) and Episode 1 is causing me all sorts of issues on Nvidia Shield TV.

It’ll either show the loading plex orange spinner, then crash Plex, or it’ll play for a few seconds then crash. I can play through the web player just fine.

My nvidia shield TV is hardwired to a switch in the basement, not over wifi so it’s not a bandwidth/network issue as far as I can tell.

I’ve attached my plex server debug logs, as well as the XML info from the media. I would love to get some help!

Try turning off Subtitles. I’ve seen this crash 4K streams.

Unfortunately I want subtitles on so not a great solution for us.

Wasn’t suggesting it as a solution. As a part of trouble shooting, you can isolate the issue, so If it doesn’t happen when Subtitles are turned off then you can report that it only happens with subtitles… and then maybe someone at plex might address the issue…

This is a host networking issue.

The network fails ( LINK FAULT ) then the stream stops.

I’m not sure why this would happen only with the Shield TV / Android TV app… I guess because it’s direct playing so dealing with a larger file size? I have no idea what would be causing this.

Some piece of equipment doesn’t like the data rate?
If this is true, then a complete network failure of that component is imminent

My shield TV is connected hardline to a switch which my unraid server (which hosts the container) is connected to as well.

I’d be shocked if is an imminent hardware failure issue for this problem just to be on certain videos.

However I could be wrong and will dig into it

knowing now that your server is in a container introduces a whole series of varibles.

It could be the host config changing outside the container. (which the container wouldn’t know about)

But direct play failing is a network issue. There’s no way around that. There is no host processing required other than to read the file and send
