I added a 4k Movie section in plex and when I add a new movie to it it just up on the home screen as a second “Recently Added Movies” (see image below). I need it to say “Recently Added 4K Movies”.
I find it hard to believe that PLEX has no way to change the “Recently Added” section to use the names of the libraries in the left side menu. Why is there not a check box under manage=>library that allows users to do this. Especially now that there are even 4K tv shows coming out. The “recently added [TITLE]” section needs to be more individualized. I want to add a 4k TV Show section but not with PLEX labeling sections this horrible way.
Nope. In order to do that I had to change the home screen to “manually manage” which I did. Click the “x” on “recently added” went into the 4K movie library click “recommended” then clicked the “+” next to “Recently added” to add it to the home screen and now all the movies are all combined (4k and 1080p) into one “Recently Added Movies” which is worse than it was before.
EDIT: What I also tried was removing both “recently added movies”. Then added the regular one back to the hub then added the 4K section back and as you can see it adds the regular section just fine but then adds the 4k movie section “with the same title, not 4K” with all the movies (4k and 1080) all combined into one (the bottom is the 4k in the image below).
Yes you are correct. My mistake. Ignore the edit part of my previous comment.
After removing both “recently added” sections. I then went to the movies section and added “recently added” back to the home menu and it does what I said at the beginning of the previous post. It just adds all the 1080 and the 4k movies together in one.
So after removing both. then adding back the regular movies section, the 4k section show that the “recently added” is already added to the home screen. So for some reason both the movies section are linked together instead of seperate.
Not according to trumpy81 (plex moderator). Look at the picture they posted. Their “recently added” sections are separate. So I don’t buy this as being normal, sorry.
At first it was set to automatic but in order to follow the instructions from @trumpy81 I had to set it to manual. When it is set to automatic it seperates the “recently added” but they both say “Movies” instead on One saying “Movies” and one say “4K Movies”. When it is set to manual it combines everything into one.
The reason I said “I don’t buy it” was not towards your comment but more towards the screenshot that @trumpy81 posted. His home section has them listed correctly, one for “movies” and one for “movies 4k”. Which is how I need it to be.
Tip!: When adding a row such as “Recently Added Music” to the Home screen, the Home screen row will include items from all libraries of that type on the server, by default. (e.g. If you have two music libraries, the Home screen row will combine recent content from both.) You can control whether a library contributes via the Include in dashboard advanced library setting.
There’s some kind of bug that doesn’t affect everyone. Unfortunately, it seems none of Plex moderators and employees have not been able to replicate it. They all get the name of the library the hub is associated with.
There’s a couple of threads about it, here’s one where a Plex employee was filing a bug report:
Theoretically. Unless you have an Android device. In that case, it ain’t likely gonna work in manual mode, and automatic mode is a new surprise each time you open the app.
And that’s not even counting the fact that a lot of us don’t get to see the name of the library the Recently Added hubs are associated with in any app.
Lol, no I didn’t miss that. So explain this to me how come I went into the settings of “movies” and “4k movies” and set their visibility to “exclude from home screen”. At this point there are no “recently added” hubs from either library on my home screen.
Then I go into my 4K library click on “recommended” scroll down to “Recently added 4K Movies” and click the plus button to add it to my home screen. Then I go back to my home screen scroll down and it show “Recently Added Movies” and has all of my movies 2160 and 1080 all mixed in together.
I did that too. It does the same thing. That is how I have it now.
Also if I have NO movie hub on the home screen then, say, add the “recently added” 4K hub then go into my regular movies to add that hub the “recently added” hub in there show that it is already added…so long story short if I add one of the movie hubs it add the other without me manually adding it.
I only have about 15 movies in my 4k section. I have 4,400 in my 1080p section. Would it be beneficial to move the 4K movies to a temp directory delete the library, PLEX dance, then re-add the library?
Appreciate the assistance in trying to sort this out, but the whole process seems counter-intuitive, and more than a little confusing.
In contrast to the OP, this is what I actually want to happen on ALL of the apps, with no manual configuration required by anyone. It should be the default view, like back in the good old days.
I’m sorry, but setting a library to NOT show on the home page, logically would mean that library will not appear on the home page. It should never be there in any hub unless I have manually added it.
And then, when I do add that hub, it should only show items from that library.
In my experience, and I just tried it, if I set a library to NOT show on the home page, it doesn’t show on the home page in automatic mode. That is, only the libraries which have the show in home page option enabled have a recently added hub.
I only tried in Plex Web (local), but when I enabled manual mode, items from all libraries of similar type were combined into a single RA hub, including the library I had set to NOT show on the home page.
Surely you can see that showing those items, simply by enabling manual mode, doesn’t make sense, if I have specifically set it to not show on the home page.
I can’t imagine why I would ever assume items from that library would show, unless I have deliberately and manually added that hub to the home page. It’s just not a logical expectation, in any sense, and it shouldn’t happen. After all, I have set it to NOT show.
It’s no wonder people are struggling with this change. Add in the fact that manual and automatic mode don’t work consistently across different devices, if at all, and that each and every device has to be configured to get a simple home page, and you get a lot of frustrated people.
^^^ THAT is the most annoying fact in all of this. If a change to the home screen is going to be implemented, it’s essential that all of the apps have the “goodness” ready to go, before it’s applied at the server level. It’s been a painful two months, never knowing what to expect on a home screen, and never seeing the same thing across various apps.
Everything shows fine on the /web version and after resetting customizations and updated to the new server version a few days ago now it is showing fine in /desktop and the Windows 10 app. But that is not why I originally posted this.
Its the fact that it doesn’t work on ANY of my streaming devices. Roku, Nvidia Shield, AppleTv, FireTV or Android. Which is what my family and friends use to connect and pretty much everyone else I know with a PLEX server.
This is not a hardware limitation either. THIS IS a software issue that has obviously been going on for a while and has yet to be addressed.
Well pretty much 99% of what Me, family and friends use is Android based devices so that is good to hear. Hopefully it will be accomplished soon. Now that there are a lot of 2160p tv shows coming out it would be nice to add a 4K TV Show section.
Ya, we all have the equipment. We watch 4K movies all the time. I have an Nvidia Shield so I can even direct stream TrueHD and Dolby Atmos sound to my Nakamichi system. I convert all my 4K movies and shows to 10bit x265 HEVC so they Direct Stream and never transcode.
