5.6.0.286 Periodic Crashes on SHIELD TV (2015)

After updating to 5.6.0.286, Plex perodically crashes while playing movies and/or TV episodes. The crash report has been submitted. Also, when in other apps, a system error dialog periodically appears as well (drilling into the error dialog details a NullPointerException). So, it appears the issue is with a background process.

The error occurs on multiple server versions:
SHIELD - 1.3.4.2385
Synology - 1.4.1.3362

Reverting back to 5.5.0.227 fixes the issue

I am seeing this also. I can provide logs if necessary but will need to remove my external IP, would be useful if the default logging had an option to remove personal information like that.

Thanks for the report.

We are actively investigating this crash, hope to have a fix soon!

This should be fixed on the beta we released 3 hours ago. Let us know if it works for you when you try it. Thanks!

The issue has been resolved in 5.6.0.302-beta.

Thanks.

I’m not sure if it’s related, but a similar issue appears in 5.6.0.386. This time, the “Plex Unexpectedly Quit” dialog appears after:

  1. Play a video (not sure how long it needs to play to trigger issue)
  2. Pause video
  3. Allow system to idle until screen saver is activated.
  4. Wait a few minutes, then press the [Select] button to return to Plex from the screen saver
  5. Notice that the “Plex Unexpectedly Quit” dialog is shown

The issue is different though the behaviour is similar. We are working on it, thanks for the steps!

We’ve released a new beta fixing that @GoDanno (5.6.0.430) . Let us know if something fails. Thanks!

Thanks. I’ll let you know.

@antoniolg Looks like that fixed it. Thanks.

In case any other has issues, this is still failing for some cases (a tricky one!). Still working on it, thanks!
