a lot of issues with all apps

Hello,

I have paid for a plex pass but i am wondering how you can even charge people for such ■■■■.
Plex is running fine in the free browser version with no errors.
You have to pay money for the other apps while those apps are full of errors.

I have tried different setups but all are not working.
My goal is to have a computer running the server and a player connected to my amp.
I am controlling the player on the server with a tablet.

Setups where:

Server: web app player
Tablet: windows app

Result: windows app does not find the player on the server.

Server: plex media player
Tablet: windows app

Result: cannot change the volume on the server.

Server: windows app
Tablet: windows app

Result: cannot change the volume on the server.

Server: plex media player
Phone: android app

Result: cannot change the volume on the server.

Server: web app
Phone: android app

Result: cannot change the volume on the server.

Server: web app
Tablet: web app

Result: everything works fine.

So basically everything is only working with the free part of plex.
When you have paid money it is not working anymore.
So now we are left with 2 options:

  1. Plex need to make sure that you get a better experience when you have paid money over the free version.
  2. Don’t pay money to plex since you will get a lesser experience.

There is no direct contact with plex regarding those issues so i really hope that they will respond to this and fix those issues.

The Plex for Windows app is quite simply, rubbish. It needs more development, avoid for now.

Use Plex Media Player (Plex app on phone / tablet to control iOS / Android)
or
OpenPHT (Plex app on phone / tablet to control iOS / Android)
or
Kodi with Plex for Kodi (use Kodi remote to control)

There are various options. I suggest you try one of them before completely dismissing Plex.

Enable exclusive mode if you can’t change the volume using Plex Media Player.

With your Plex Pass, those apps are free.

Funny to say. You have three options:
Pay money for plex pass to use the apps.
Pay money per app per device.
Pay no money and can’t use the apps.

So can you explain to me in which option the apps are “FREE”?

Free means no need to pay any money.

Free as in, PlexPass costs money even without the apps, so the apps are a free bonus/incentive.

Economics and marketing aside, did you try the above suggestions about avoiding the windows app and enabling exclusivity for the volume issue?

i have tried plex media player on the server and plex media player on the tablet.
this way i can control the volume at least.
only thing that is not working is the control bar on top of the pages where also the button is on to show artwork and play the albums.

thank you for the reply.

its a shame that plex is reacting this way instead of giving notice that they will address the issue and try to fix it.
i realy love the concept they have created and everything looks very nice, from the looks to the abilities.
i was ready to pay the one time fee for plex pass but have decided to first try it out for one month.
now i am stumbling on a lot of different issues and problems in the area of plex where to ask money for.
all the things you can access and use for free are working perfectly.
that is what bothering me the most.
in my logic it needs at least be the other way around, the free part having a bit of issues and the part where they charge money for being better.
on this moment it is better to not get plex pass and get all those issues and just stay with the free part that is working fine.
i really hope that the plex team will take this serious and does not come back with other answers discussing what free is or not.

Plex Pass = paid access to betas.

Plex pass is a lot more than just this.

  • Early Access to new Plex features.
  • Access to preview release versions of the Plex Media Server and other Apps before they’re released generally.
  • Enjoy an app on us. Our mobile Plex apps (Android, iOS, Windows, and Windows Phone) are yours free.
  • Premium features like Mobile Sync, Cloud Sync, and Camera Upload.
  • Premium music libraries: Take your music experience to eleven! Enjoy better artwork and artist bios, album reviews, improved matching, lyrics from LyricFind, and more.
  • Plex Home: Managed users, fast user switching, fine-grained sharing restrictions - parental controls and a whole lot more.
  • Trailers & Extras: Automatically gather high-quality movie trailers, interviews, and extras for movies in your Library.
  • DVR Functionality in Beta
  • Plex Cloud
  • Access to additional forum areas

I’m sure I’ve missed a major feature or two as well as what I listed. But Plex Pass is far more than just early access to builds and “free client apps”.

I have tried different setups but all are not working.
My goal is to have a computer running the server and a player connected to my amp.
I am controlling the player on the server with a tablet.

So you have a computer that runs Plex Media Server (PMS), do you happen to know which version you installed?
You also indicated you have an amp that is somehow in the mix as well.
Is the AMP connected to a TV as Well?

You mention that you are wanting to control it all with a Tablet, which tablet are you using.
And if you are viewing this on a TV what Plex app or device is connected to that TV?

I’m a bit confused about your message. Is an audio problem or is something general? You should run Plex server on your computer and connect that computer to your A/V receiver, than on Plex you must passthrough your audio to be decoded by your receiver. Check, https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/212072167-Audio-Configuration-Guide-Plex-Media-Player. You can manage your Plex client using some Plex apps (like Plex for Android) or some remotes (like Apple remote). In fact, if you have an HDMI CEC TV you can just use your TV remote to control volume. Personally, I use both, my Apple remote and my TV remote to control volume. I don’t use Windows, but AFAIK it should work. Which OS are you using in your server? Which device/OS are you using as a client (not to control the client)?

My configuration is as following:

Server computer:
Plex media server 1.4.4.3495
Soundcard is connected to my amp with tulp (its an 25 old yamaha reciever).
Plex web as client or plex media player as client or windows uwp app as client, i dont care as long as it works to play the music to my amp.

Tablet is a surface 3 windows tablet.
It needs to run the windows uwp app to connect to the client on the server and control the music and volume because the server is put away and the amp does not have a remote.

Phone is android.
Same deal the phone app to connect to the server’s client to play the music and control the volume.

I dont care about any other features of the plex pass.
All i want to use are the apps.
So i can or buy the apps on all my different devices, or buy plex pass.
So please forget about the plex pass in general. I can just as well buy the apps without the plex pass and have the same issues.

On this moment the only thing that is working to get volume control on the server’s client is having plex media player as client on the server and plex media player as client on the tablet.
but the thing is that the plex media player on my windows tablet is not working great.
the size of all buttons / tekst / hyperlinks etc. is way too small for my touch screen which makes it difficult to use with touch.
Therefor i need the windows uwp app.

Great now i have experimented with the windows uwp app on the tablet controlling the plex media player on the server and now all the other devices / apps are not detecting the server’s plex media player anymore.
I have rebooted all devices but no succes.
No i am stuck at only be able to use the windows uwp app since that is now the only app that is listing the server’s plex media player.

Let me guess what you want, forgive me if I am wrong. You want to play your music thru your AMP which is connected to your window PLEX server. You are using “windows uwp app” on your tablet or android machines to remote control your server to output the sound to the AMP. The operation does have some problems, and you blame PLEX alone. I suspected “windows uwp app” and PLEX on server do not get along very well. A simple fix is to get a blue tooth dongle for your AMP. You can play your music via PLEX client on any devices send the music to AMP.

You are correct in what i want to achieve. The problem in your suggestion is that my amp is a 25 year old yamaha receiver which does not handle Bluetooth. It does not have any digital in it. It has tulp connection to support one aux and have a record in and out as tulp connection for a tape deck. And an input with preamp for a record player. So my server’s soundcard is connection with 3.5 jack to tulp to the receiver. I cannot find a way to fling to the server directly to play the music so i am trying to have a plex player on the server where i can fling to.

What is bothering me is that when i use the web player on the server and the web player on my tablet or phone to control the one on the server everything works great. I love it.
So now i wanted to buy the apps for my phone and tablet since those apps are easier to navigate on the phone and the windows uwp app on the tablet because they are easier with touch control.
But when i buy them i cannot change the volume anymore on the server’s player. Which was no problem with the web apps.
So basically what i have right now is a lesser experience when i buy the apps.

I just discovered I can cast the songs from my mobile phone to my plex server. This may be a solution for you. My steps:

  1. in the plex server, setting >> Web >> General >> check the box “advertise as player”
  2. Access my music library and play my songs
  3. Click the cast button on the top right hand corner, select my “plex server on firefox” in the drop down box
  4. My server start playing the song and output the music to my monitor

good luck.
