A screenshot of Roku channels with free content - why is the new Plex icon the tackiest one?

Even PlutoTV doesn’t look as cheap as the new Plex for Roku icon. The “Free Movies & TV” tagline would be fine for entirely ad-supported services with bargain basement content but Plex has paid subscribers (like me).

@darcilicious Why was this moved out of the Roku category? It’s not a general discussion about Plex, this is specific to the Plex Roku app.

That’s why it’s tagged with a Roku.

If that Icon is really bothering you - install the Preview App.
It’s much less tacky:

… AND you get the benefit of early ‘features/fixes’ that, just may, at some point, provide a tacky Preview Poster or fix the tackiness of the Regular Joe App.

That’s why it’s tagged with a Roku.

I set the Roku tag in the original post, @darcilicious then edited the post and changed the category from Plex streaming players to General Discussion without explanation. Hence the request for clarification, as this is clearly limited to the Plex Roku streaming player only.

If that Icon is really bothering you - install the Preview App.

Appreciate the advice on the workaround - however, I started this topic to get feedback - there is also clearly a substantial user base that does not sign up for Plex Pass considering that the latest change for the Roku app enables access to the Plex sponsored streaming content without having to create an account at all.

One option would be to have a new app that is for Plex Pass subscribers that is stable and not subject to some of the bugs I’ve previously experienced using the Preview app (which is why I stopped using it).

I also just took a look over at the Plex subreddit and came across this:

So it seems there are at least a few folk interested in UX discussion.

Agreed. Had to do a double take on the new icon and went…”really?”

I came here just looking for a thread about it. It such a piece of garbage. I didn’t pay for a lifetime to look at that crap.

Also came here looking for a thread about this and agree with others, it’s tacky, especially for paid users. Enough reason to consider another product.

Not sure what ya’ll are drinking while in lockdown, but you’re supposed to strain Sterno through a slice of white bread before making a Martini out of it… and stop putting onions in - olives only.

If Plex isn’t working feverishly on that Logo because they’re busy fixing the reason for The Plex Dance - I’m good with that.

Thanks for your feedback.

I’m a Lifetime Plex Pass subscribing fanboy just like some of the detractors of this thread topic, but I wholeheartedly agree that the new icon is CHEAP and TACKY. I don’t have the “free offerings” enabled and I don’t want them. If that idea offends you @JuiceWSA, go pour yourself a Martini and keep out of the thread

Agreed. This new icon is garbage. I understand they want people to know they are offering free stuff and it makes Plex money. But this is quite the sellout move. To change your brand from respectable and cool. To just plain junk. Bring the old logo back! What’s next? They remove the ability to view your own media?

Is it just the fact that it says Free Movies & TV ? I look at the one on My fire stick and in IMO it,s not any better or worse, Looks like an app.
For me I just started with the media streaming stuff . I have a Win10pro PC with PMS with Plex app on fire stick Both free and work great other than the commercials hanging up on the free streaming stuff with the fire stick. I also have a Win10 PC setup as DLNA server with file sharing, Plex has a heck of a lot nicer interface than the DLNA server but it works fine . From what I see on here there are a lot of folks are asking for more and more features , want it to do this and that and then they get pissed off cause it has not been done yet and or complain another feature got added or changed that they don’t like.
It has to be kinda tough for the Plex staff to try and keep everyone happy without getting to the the point of saying to hell with it.

This is the first time in months I’ve felt the need to login to the Plex Forum. Why? Because I hate that icon. I’m here for the sole purpose of looking for a thread like this to provide feedback to Plex. Why would you do that? Make it go away. It was a nice clean simple classy logo before you turned it into a cheesy billboard. I can’t even stand the ad supported services and wish I could turn off all trace of them within the app now you’re going to make me look at this? As if that is the sole purpose for the app? I know, why don’t you make the cheese a different app and leave the original alone. I’d pay for that… wait, I thought I did.
