Server Version#: 1.13.9.5456-scd600442
Player Version#:
I’ve just setup a new NAS DS918+.
I’ve used a Plex Server on a WD MyPassport Wireless for a few weeks and that worked fine.
I installed Plex first using the Diskstation Package Centre. When I ran this a webpage opens and said it couldn’t connect to my MyPassport server. I could find no options to setup the new server so I deleted the MyPassport server. When I ran this again it said no server could be found.
I then uninstalled Plex and reinstalled manually the latest version from your website.
Still the message “A server can not be found” appeared.
I came across several discussions on this topic on your support and tried a number of things including stopping the server, deleting the Preferences.xml file and restarting the server. I uninstalled Plex, deleted the Plex file share and reinstalled Plex. I did the same again from my Windows PC using Microsoft Explorer as I also read there maybe some issue with Safari on one of your support threads.
Nothing has worked and I still see “A server can not be found”.
I am not connecting to my NAS from a remote machine. Every machine is in the same network and all have local IP addresses. I have even tried from a machine on the same VLAN.
I was worried there might be some issue with my firewall device but there are no rules blocking transmissions of any kind on my LAN behind the firewall and there are no log entries on my firewall saying it blocked any such connections.
Funny I had zero problems in the same network to get this running on the WD MyPassport. And the other server was accessible to other devices on my network while the Plex on my NAS couldn’t find it.
It seems it maybe something more specific to the Synology NAS though I’ve tried this with and without the firewall on the NAS so I can’t see what could be the problem there.
Are you saying that the Plex server on the NAS has to communicate outside my network to plex.tv? Maybe that is the issue. I’ll need to check if my firewall is blocking that kind of communication.
Rather bizarrely by changing the IP address of the NAS it was able to find the server and I was able to set it up. But now it will not claim it. It gives the error message: “There was a problem signing into Plex”
I have no desire to access the server from outside my network and I have a business firewall as I have a home office. I again checked my firewall logs and there is nothing explaining why I am unable to claim the server.
Do you have any ideas why this might be a problem. Could my firewall be interfering with this process?
Problem solved. I put the NAS back at its static IP address and clicked on Plex and again it said it couldn’t find the server. So I entered the IP address:32400/web and voila it found the server and was able to claim it.
This whole process is rather complicated and buggy.
