WD MYCLOUD EX2 is not being found. I downloaded & installed the Plex Media Server onto my NAS. It did not recognize it, just looped…I then installed the server software on my Windows 10 desktop to see if it would find the server & it did. My software is all up to date but when I log into plex through the web browser it just loops saying: A server could not be found. Download and install Plex Media Server, and it will appear here. Can some one help. I find I’m very ignorant on this topic & forum format & guidelines…
When you installed the Plex Medoa Server onto windows 10, what were the details or steps you took to set it up?
- Where’s the media
- Network setup
- Static IP setup for the device that has the media stored
- Port forwarding setup properly
I just set the Plex server on my Windows 10 desktop to see if it would work. I’m trying to get it to work on my NAS WD MyCloud EX2. I’ve downloaded the latest Plex server software onto the NAS But it’s not being found. Server not found on Plex homepage & it just loops & doesn’t connect. I don’t understand about ports or Static IP setup. I had it working in the past & I didn’t need to change or set anything up like a port. I took the NAS off the network. Now, I’m trying to set it up again so that I can have access to watch my content from WD Mycloud EX2 on the Xbox One X Plex app or my Windows 10 desktop &/or my Apple TV but I can’t. I believe it’s not recognizing my WD NAS as the server.
When you had your PLEX working before, was it with your own media or someone shared their media with you? My older MyCloud NAS drive doesn’t have the ability to load the PLEX Server onto itself. I just use it for my media and use a laptop and an Nvidia Shield to run the Plex Media Server that points to the media on NAS. The only reason it may be appealing to run on the NAS is if you don’t do any transcoding of your media, only play within your home, not from the outside and is always on and no computer needed to serve your media. If you do get it working on the NAS itself, you would have to consider the horsepower of the CPU on the NAS to support multiple streams and transcodes you may have. Take a look at the articles and let us know what else you still questions with.
