Hi, would it be possible to implement a feature that we can use in the settings to backup our Plex database and settings to another drive or folder. I know this can be done manually, but to be able to export or move the Plex database and settings via the Plex Server settings and then being able to import the database and settings would be much better than doing it the manual way.
With Windows 11 dropping soon, I’ll be doing a clean install of Windows and from experience, the manual way often causes problems, even though all the drives and paths are the same. So, it would help if this were a feature built into Plex.
I had to do a similar clean install because Windows 10 reached the point where system updates failed for no particular reason. I found everything I needed on my backup image for the Plex Server to be restored without much if any loss, but it could have been a lot easier.
I’m in the middle of transferring from one Linux (Synology) build to another (Ubuntu computer base + Docker image). The amount of data I have to backup to transfer the server is frankly staggering. 700,000 files, taking up 270 GB of space. I’ve had to start and restart the process many times as my Windows computer transferring files around keeps getting hung up on a single unknown file (meaning I have no guarantee that it worked, but it might have). It finally finished, and everything seems golden, but an automated process would have been nice. Considering the steps to do it, however, I have no idea how we’d automate that process.
I suspect it’s rarely needed however, so the importance for devs to implement this is surely at the bottom of the list.
