"Activate Plex" is required to watch my personal material

I can see all the TV shows that I’ve loaded onto Plex from downstairs and I’m logged into the master account, but if I try to play an episode I’m told that I have to spend money to “activate” the player. This does not happen on my SmartTV.

Mobile apps are not free i.e. iOS and Android (unless you have a PlexPass).

I’m using the Windows 10 app. Is that considered to be a mobile app?

good question actually.

you could also try the older plex media player (it is different than the plex for windows).

I recall that if you download it from here https://www.plex.tv/de/media-server-downloads/#plex-app you don’t have to activate it, while for the app from the windows store this is necessary.

The Windows app store app shouldn’t be available anymore.

I believe the app from the Windows Store was indeed paid for, however I think it is now depreciated.

For the desktop, I would use either Plex for Windows or Plex Media Player (this has a 10ft UI).
