Send server messages

It would be great as a PlexPass user to unlock a feature to send messages to the viewers.


  1. Information on planned maintenance (running every 20min or so)
  2. Restart information (one time message)

    and so on.



    This would be nice to have when you have a shared server.



    Vote on the poll, and maybe give a comment in suggestions to make this feature request better.

+1 here. I’ve got 2 TVs hooked up to the same PMS locally and at least 5 iOS devices connected

Not to mention shared users not in the house

Might be handy to have “new file added” alerts as part of this with the option to turn them on and off per section…

How many clients du you have?

I would personally rather have dev focus on better subtitle support, 3D subtiles etc

For the moment I only have 3 clients at home and 6 friends on other locations.

The local clients is easy just to tell, but the others are a bit harder.



I’m just happy if this would go on the TODO list. :slight_smile:

I would like this alot.  Even something as simple as a instant message box in the friends section in plex web that will go out to all active clients, even those shared via my plex.

yes. This is a very important feature as we move to remote clients! Not that I have an SLA to keep but it would be nice to let my friends know htat I'll be rebooting the server or something and that content will be unavailable.

I see a need for a "announcement" type message every time someone connects and a "broadcast" message that would be sent on-the-spot to all active clients. both should be accessible via CLI (so that I can script apcupsd and other tools to interface with them).

Yes and no. You as a member do not have access to this information. Under "This server is shared with" you will only find the username.

Backward thinking IMO. You want to send notifications for friends to see when they are using Plex not using their email.
