Add Pre-Roll to Synology DS1520+

i made a folder within the plexmedia folder called PreRoll and put in my ChrisFlix.mp4

…BUT i don’t know the path to use for the plex server to see the pre-roll>

\BLACKBEARD\PlexMediaServer\PreRoll\ChrisFlix.mp4

blackbeard is the name of the synology server

Plexmediaserver is the name of the folder plex created when I installed it

PreRoll is the name of the folder I created

1st… you shouldn’t place any media or other stuff in the server’s data directory – I suppose that’s what \BLACKBEARD\PlexMediaServer is?

If your server is running on the Syno, make sure to use the file’s local path (Syno doesn’t know how your NAS is mounted on that Windows machine). You can determine the correct path by accessing the File through DSM’s “File Station” app.

  1. Open File Station
  2. Navigate to the file
  3. Select the file and click Action > Properties (alternatively you can right-click the file and select Properties from its context menu)
    Screenshot from Synology's Knowledge Base
  4. Copy the full path to your file from the Location property (e.g. /volume1/video/prerolls/ChrisFlix.mp4)
  5. Enter / add that path to the Plex pre-roll configuration

The same feature should be available if you’re using their mobile app (DS File)

thank you…
/volume1/media/PreRoll/ChrisFlix.mp4 is the location.
I entered
Capture
tried on my roku…no pre-roll
i’m missing something?

Well… is that the actual location of your file?
Also… have you configured your Roku to play the pre-rolls (in the app’s settings: Experience > Movie pre-roll video)

yes… correct location (thank you for the way to find it)…
yes added pre-roll under roku

This should play the preroll before a movie.
If it’s not… can you try to reboot the server / restart the Roku to confirm if this brings up the preroll? Does the preroll play in another client (e.g. Plex Web)?

rebooted plex…still no go
does not play using plex web either

that is the screenshot of the location
also made sure the mp4 does play, not corrupt

..and screenshot of roku
