Netflix never had it, did it?
Oh I’m so disappointed to discover this. I’ve been watching Doctor Who with my nephew and he has been really looking forward to continuing this while he’s away for six weeks. Way to break a kid’s heart, Plex! :-/
Cancelled my sub over this, it was the key feature for me.
Bye-bye
Noticing that this feature suggestion really skyrocketed like no feature suggestion did before: Can anybody from Plex acknowledge if you put Watch Together on the Plex Experience rollout plan and when we can expect that?
You can still use it on the web browser, which of course is a crappy way to watch content for most people.
The real answer for you is to sideload an older version of the client where Watch Together still works. It’s pretty easy for Android devices. A bit more steps to it for iOS devices, but still doable.
Unfortunately Plex seems to be wedded to corporate greed and the enshitification of their own platform.
For anyone interested, Jellyfin (which you can easily install next to, or in place of, Plex) seems to have a similar Watch Together feature. I haven’t tried it out, but it might restore this functionality to some degree.
This is a theme in App Store reviews. Here’s a thread with a (small) sampling of recent reviews showing how much we hate Plex’s recent decisions. This will absolutely continue to tank Plex and fuel Jellyfin to grow and eventually replace it:

Super sad for those who believed in and supported Plex.
For those interested:
I use this all the time to watch movies with my friend who lives in a different state. It is such a shame to lose this. It’s one of the best parts of Plex.
Please reconsider this.
I have not updated my Plex server since the announcment and I will not update it unless watch-together will be back in the new version. I regularly watch movies or tv shows with a friend of mine over watch-together. It has become an essential feature for me. And yes, Disney+ removed it, Amazon charges additional fee for it… both of with is stupid and another reason I do not user neiter Disney+ nor Amazon Prima anymore.
I tried Jellyfin… but their sync-play is rather janky. I tried it with my friend, we got out of sync and could not start from the position we were in the movie. So while the function is there it is, sadly, not a reliable alternative.
PLEASE Plex, bring this feature back!
Removing the best feature in Plex is such a shame. I hope this gets added again. Why remove such a good feature in the first place? I can only agree to all the previous users that this will be missed.
I paid for Plex for exactly this kind of feature; it’s crazy to me it’s even being considered for removal. Come on, Plex! Long distance relationships need this
please do not discontinue Watch Together - this is one of my most used features outside of basic media playback!
Too bad Plex never listens to the community.
That’s demonstrably untrue.
Plex is far, far from perfect. But they do listen and change course when it makes sense.
I’ve been around long enough to know that Plex does what they want and don’t really listen to the community.
Over 2200 votes and no clarification from the team says it all, doesn’t it?
You misunderstand me. I’m not suggesting that this feature suggestion isn’t of any value or questioning its popularity. But you stated, rather unambiguously, that Plex never listens to the community.
And I again state, that’s demonstrably untrue.
That was just one example. When folks reported that their guide data was unacceptable for live TV, they moved back to Gracenote. When folks wanted to use multiple guide data sources for live TV, Plex added it. When folks wanted to be able to have separate editions of movies, well, Plex added it.
Just because your pet feature hasn’t been added back, it doesn’t mean that the feedback isn’t being heard and considered.
I suspect there are larger considerations for Watch Together that they have to take into account. (Such as it might be considered a public display of media.)
It’s going to take more to establish trust again, and a full blog announcement (none since March) is long overdue, as is an apology.
I’m not sure what that has to do with my comments, but sure.
Look, I’m not defending Plex here (I know it looks like I am, but I’m not). What I’m suggesting is that words have meaning. And when a statement is made that “Plex never listens to the Community,” it should probably be true.
Not much to add that hasn’t already been said - but still: Please bring this back, it’s one of the true gems of the plex experience and I user it frequently with friends and my girlfriend. It’s literally a feature I’ll stop using plex over
