Hey everyone. Long-time Plex user. I have forgotten my PMS remote setup and need a hand.
I recently added a password to the windows user account that runs PMS. Now, when I try to login to Plex I get the “[Host PC] is currently unavailable” error on my other home devices (Roku TV, Xbox, etc.). The only solution I have found is to go wake up the PC and login to the windows user.
Yes, that will cause the same issue. PMS normally runs under the user that is logged in when you installed the program. If you log out, the apps stop running. You can switch users and PMS will keep running in the background, but the sleep issue will still be there.
There is a 3rd party app that will allow you to run PMS as a service, which will always run in the background, even when logged out. It’s not officially supported by Plex but it does work. This still doesn’t get around the sleep issue.
Setting up Plex as a service and setting your server to stay awake at all times is the way to go, had it running like this for years with no issues other than updates are not automatic. Change the Plex settings to not install updates automatically, stop the service, run Plex as an app as before when logged in, run the update, close the app, run the service, logout.
