Adding External HD To My Server?

Server Version#: 1.41.9
Player Version#:

So I am trying to add external hard drives I have connected to another computer inside my network, but when I go to add those folders/locations to the respected library, all I see are folder locations from where Plex is being run, which is off of my Qnap NAS. But I also tried installing plex from my computer and doing it that way as well, and the same results, I don’t know why I can’t bring up the other locations

Your server can only see drives that are visible to the Machine and to which the server has access (permissions). An external drive connected to your PC isn’t visible to the server running on your NAS.

If you can make the external drive available to the network (configuration in the PC settings, e.g. Windows‘ file explorer), you can map that new „network drive“ within your QNAP and give the server permission to see it. Then, you can also add folders of that drive to your libraries.

Keep in mind this might cause issues if the drive is no longer available / disconnected.

I think this QNAP KB article might help

I have the drives mounted to my nas via HybridMount, I just don’t see the locations of them when I try to add a folder from one of said hard drives to my media collection on plex. How would I give the “server” permission to see it, I’m confused..

Nevermind, I had to search each folder on the nice which contained the mounted network drives(shares) which is in “/share/”

QNAP is strict about permissions.

If both sides don’t grant permission, You won’t be able to “browse” your way down in and get to the directories and their contents.

It takes a lot of fussing .

Best to give “everyone” READ permission. (it’s your machine so you and Plex will be “everyone”)
